Congrats Andy!

Congrats to our nephew for graduating with his Master of Library Science! A legit bibliophile in the family! If you stop by Western Seminary's library in Portland, he can help you.

Standing Tall

My, how you've grown! I love seeing how our youngest is growing up into a lovely and mature young woman!

Unexpected Pop of Color

I was surprised by pink on the porch. That is one determined snap dragon! I love the unexpected pop of color.

Look Up

Sometimes all I can see is what is right in front of me. Challenges and obstacles. But it's good to get another perspective. Look up. Trust God.

Congrats on the Anniversaries!

Today is my younger sister's anniversary. Thirty-one years for them. Congrats!

I missed my youngest sister's anniversary earlier this summer. Happy 19th to them!

So Many Good Memories

It's been three years since we said our final goodbyes to my father-in-law. We didn't know it was the end until the last day or two of his seven-week stay in the hospital.

We wanted more days and years with him, of course. But we are thankful for so many good memories and the legacy he left behind.

Pictured: Our youngest with her grandpa, probably 17 years ago.

I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 ESV

Macgyver Love

It is very inconvenient to have a tailgate that is stuck in the locked position. Just ask my husband and son who have been loading and unloading yard debris, equipment and furniture. Our youngest tried a coat hanger contraption and successfully got it to open and close. Hooray!

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace: 1 Peter 4:10 ESV

Simple Things

I love how our pup enjoys the simple things in life. Like sunbathing on the pile of grass clippings. Works for her!

Love My Girls

It's been a while since we went to coffee. But one of these days it will work out!

Make the Time

I keep saying I should make the time. Go visit my Gramma. Today was the day. We reminisced about the old days when Grampa and Gramma built their house. I think I went with them to pick a door.

We watched the birds.

Glad I made the time.

A Little Rain

We needed a little rain. And that's what we got this morning.

Someone Should Bake Her a Cake!

Who is this beautiful and talented young woman? I admire her so much. Treasure our time together. Our older daughter celebrates her 28th birthday today.

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, Philippians 1:3 ESV

Time to be Realistic

Sometimes things don't work out. Even with your best efforts. I am about to call it on my Ming Aralia. I loved that plant but it's time to be realistic.

Plant Check Up

I love how this plant (still unknown type) is thriving. Sadly not all my plants are doing so well. We are all doing the best we can.

Plan the Route

I'm not a detailed organized planner. But I realize I like to plan my routes. What is the most efficient path through the store? Where should I drive to find lights for the easy turns? Works for me!

Extend Grace

I finally added the birthdays to my big calendar. I know the year is over half over. I like to extend grace to myself. Start where I am. Don't beat myself up. Do what I can, when I can.

Pictured: And yes, I am reusing an old photo of a former calendar. I still like the big grids.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6 ESV

Custom Card Love

What happens if you give your niece some pens? And look through her art journal and enjoy her creative animal and food drawings? She might send you a custom card. With a thoughtful note as well. Works for us!

Take Time to Chill

It feels like it has been a busy summer with lots of coming and going. But today we made time for iced drinks. Coffee for her and tea for me.

Count on Them

Have I mentioned lately how much our Life Group ladies mean to me? I count on them for prayer support and encouragement. My life is better with them.

Pictured: When the ladies came to visit me at home, back when I was still using crutches.

Home for the Summer

Who You Have

I'm still thinking about the short but sweet time with family this summer. Like this moment with some of the women I love dearly. Too bad my other sister and her girls were not in town yet. Or our older daughter. My mom was in the other room and missed the photo op. Have to take a photo with who you have!

Long Road

I am not walking very fast. But I am getting around with or without a cane. It's been a long road since I broke my ankle the end of March. I am thankful for the steady progress!

Legacy of Love and Faith

Two years ago today my husband and I dropped everything and drove over to an Olympia hospital. Just in time to say one final goodbye to my dad. Our beloved dad and grandpa. Loving husband to my mom. Respected teacher and mentor.

Grief is tempered with gratitude. My dad gave us a legacy of love and faith. We miss him but know we will see him again.

Pictured: From eleven years ago when my nieces were little. And there were just three of them. Now there are five precious girls.

But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 ESV

Done For

I had dinner well under way. Black bean chili simmered on the stove. Skillet corn bread fresh out of the oven. I just needed a clean ladle to dish up. But when I washed the ladle I didn't get it completely rinsed. One taste and I knew the chili was done for.

Plan B: quickly cook up ground turkey for taco salad. With corn bread.

Lesson learned!!!

Enjoy the Little Things

Today I hit the jackpot. I found a parking spot close to the grocery store entrance. And used my senior discount. Works for me!

How About One of the Four of Us?

How many photos have we taken on my mom's patio? It's the perfect backdrop.

Choose to Trust

It would be easy to be overwhelmed with all the suffering going on near and far. I choose to trust that God is in control and will provide comfort today. And He will bring final judgement where needed.

Pictured: Dahlias are a reminder of God's beautiful creation.

The LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness ,keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.” Exodus 34:6-7 ESV

The Case of the Missing Car Key

In today's segment of "This isn't how I planned to spend my afternoon" we see the two characters walking around the car and the driveway. Peering in the car windows. Going through every corner of the house and garage. Looking under cushions and furniture. Double checking pockets. Could they have locked the key in the trunk or car? When will they ever find out? Stay tuned.

The car dealership in the next town might be able to help. Just take the car title as proof of ownership and have a dummy key made. If the key is inside the car, problem solved.

Moment of truth: the dummy key opened the trunk to reveal the missing key!

All's well, that ends well, as they like to say.

Down Time

I try to prepare and have water and a book. In case there is wait time. But I didn't take a chair to my mother-in-law's empty-waiting-to-sell house. It was too hot to sit in car while the contractors were there, so I sat on the floor.

Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Ecclesiastes 7:8 ESV

Find the Perfect Spot

You have to move around. Find the perfect spot. And then you have cell phone service at my mother-in-law's house. Reminds me of the old family story about having to stand on a picnic table to get cell service.
