Sunday Lunch Bunch

Nice we could have lunch with our moms and some friends today!

Make Your Own Combination

Sometimes I accidentally open a package on the wrong end. Or cut when there's a reclosable zipper seal. But there is a reason why this bag of cheddar and caramel popcorn has two clips. That way you can help yourself to what you want. The caramel must be heavier because it goes to the bottom of the bag. Works for us!

Just Down the Street

When the kids were little, we counted trips to the grocery store as dates. Now we enjoy our semi-regular meetups for breakfast at our favorite Basement Bistro. Just down the street at the hospital. Works for us!

Getting Closer

There are seasons in life and marriage. Sickness and health, and all that. Being in school. Having babies, young children or teens. Being under or unemployed. To name a few.

I didn't expect the last three months as empty nesters would include me being laid up with ankle surgery and recovery. My husband has graciously been my chief care giver and cook. I am looking forward to the next season--when I can resume cooking and caring for my family. I'm getting closer to that day!

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. James 1:2-3 ESV

Snap Dragon Memories

And speaking of flowers, look what came back for another year! I love snap dragons. I have fond memories of my grandma's beautiful flowers at their old house at the lake.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. Isaiah 40:8 ESV

Welcome Back Blooms!

I almost forgot to check on the hydrangea. I don't always use that entrance to the hospital. But there were no parking spots near physical therapy. Look at those magenta blooms!

Match with Mom

We didn't even plan to meet up. But my husband and I happened to stop and get lunch at Wendy's just before my mom walked in. Nice to visit a little and catch up!

Good Care

My husband takes good care of us. He took his mom and her walker and me with my knee scooter to church today. Glad my mother-in-law is recovering from her fractured vertebrae!

Sweet Sister Time

We were friends before we were sisters-in-law. So we go way back. Recently we shared some sweet times during her visit to see her mom.

Tomorrow is her birthday so I'm wishing her all the best in the year to come!

Physical Therapy and More

If I have an early physical therapy appointment, I might as well get breakfast afterwards. At our favorite Basement Bistro. My husband walked from home and met me there. Works for us!

Here's to Many More Adventures and Good Meals!

Who puts on an amazing feast for the family on Father's Day? With our daughter? Who is a great friend and fellow adventurer for our daughter? Who does our dog love and follow around? Happy birthday, Nathan!

We Meet Again

I am just starting to make little trips out. I drive a short distance and use the knee scooter or crutches to walk. Today I drove to physical therapy and made a couple stops. Perfect timing to see my mom at our favorite bargain grocery store.

Dad and Dog Day

Our dog didn't mind going along for the ride. And she was a great traveler and house guest.. Our daughter and boyfriend made all of us feel welcome.

Father's Day 2019

Our daughter and her boyfriend made sure Father's Day was a day of rest and celebration for my husband. Just what he needed.

Happy Father's Day to the man who loves me so well and is a great dad, husband,  and son!

Twice a Week

It's a stretch for me. I am doing the exercises and trying to walk correctly. I'm going to need the crutches longer than I expected. But the physical therapy twice a week is going to help.

Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Ecclesiastes 7:8 ESV

Walk and Roll

I enjoyed getting out for a little stroll with the family. I can't walk far yet, but I can roll. My kids helped me get across the street from our neighborhood. And then it's a great path for walking and rolling with my borrowed knee scooter!

For the LORD God is a sun and shield; the LORD bestows favor and honor. No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 ESV

Grandma and Granddaughters

Our older daughter had a day off today so she came home for a visit. Works for us!

Scooter Shopper

I'm happy to have the cast off. But the next phase of recovery is going to take a while. I started physical therapy to gain strength and mobility. Meanwhile, I love having the knee scooter so I can get around. I have gone out shopping a couple times.

Takes Care of His People

Our fluffy white dog thinks she's a lap dog. She enjoys sitting with my husband when he's not out working or taking care of his people. What a faithful husband, father, son, and friend!

That's My Friend

Who prays for you faithfully? Makes yummy food (homemade tortillas, anyone?). Isn't afraid to speak the truth. Gives you rides. Shares in your sorrows and your joys. That's my friend. Happy birthday, Celia!

Season of Change

I might as well stop and check the hydrangeas. Especially if I am there at the hospital anyway. I love seeing how they change over the seasons.

Grandma and Driver

Some days nothing is simple. Despite your best efforts to be prepared, call ahead, and ask questions. Thankfully our driver was patient and redeemed the time. Bless my son for making a Starbucks run for sandwiches and coffee while we were stuck waiting. All's well that ends well.

Flowers at the Door

Looks like someone stopped by to see my mother-in-law. But she was out running errands with me, and my son. How sweet to have flowers and a note from our friend in our Life Group!

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 ESV

On the Move

Look at us go. On the move. Getting a few important errands done. With the help of my son, who took the day off to be our driver. And my husband who made a last minute run to a different pharmacy to pick up a necessary prescription.

Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV

Ready to Roll Out

Where is God when it is hard and you are overwhelmed? Right there with you. Like this week. How can my husband and I care for my mother-in-law when I am still laid up?

We are getting through, one moment at a time. With little and big miracles. There have been amazing acts of kindness from strangers and friends. The family is pulling together, even though we are spread out. God is faithful.

Pictured: Ready to roll!  Thanks to my knee scooter, a wheelchair for Mom, and my friend to load us up and drive yesterday.

Three Days Later

Three days later, my mother-in-law is out of the hospital. Glad she has the pain and nausea under control, finally. Bless her heart, she has been such a trooper.

Through it All

You want a birthday to be memorable. But in a good way. My mother-in-law started her 79th birthday off with an early morning fall. Since last Thursday she has been in doctor's offices, our home for two nights, the emergency room and the hospital. She has a back brace and is waiting for treatment for her broken vertebrae. We'll take a rain check on birthday cake!

With My Girls

What were we thinking about one year ago? Our youngest was graduating from high school and community college. I was making batch after batch of pulled pork for the open house. It all came together!

Hello Pink

I've been waiting for these beauties to reveal themselves. Hello pink peonies from our backyard!
