View from Outside

I don't get out much. But I have people coming here. Today I had one of my Lunch Ladies stop by and one of my Cleaning Ladies (from our Life Group). Plus a quick visit by my Mom. I am well taken care of!

Pictured: The Lunch Lady, AKA my mother-in-law, captured this photo of the beautiful flowers on our porch with our pup in the window.

Who Loves Naps?

My parents had the right idea when I was growing up. I just didn't appreciate Sunday naps at the time. Now I look forward to quiet time so I can recharge.

Seasons Come and Go

I take comfort in that big old plum tree in our front yard. I enjoy watching the seasons come and go. Without fail. Reminds me of how God is at work, year-round. Whether we understand or can see it.

Pictured: Our plum tree was filled with blossoms a few weeks ago. Now it is covered with leaves.

Perfect Time to Visit

I made my first trip out since breaking my ankle count. With one impromptu stop at my uncle and aunt's home, I was able to see lots of relatives. Including my uncle and aunt visiting from Texas, a great aunt, my grandma, my mom, my cousins, and cute foster kids. We showed up just in time for dessert too.

But my favorite moment was sitting side by side with Gramma, in our wheelchairs.

Sister Goals

One of these years my two sisters and I will go on a trip. Maybe go on a thrift store tour. Check out the coffee shops and bakeries on the way. Or search for the best breakfast burrito. And find the hole in the wall Chinese restaurants, of course.

We've all been busy raising families--12 children between us. In Washington, Oregon, and California.

But we can start dreaming and planning!

Today I especially miss my younger sister and wish I could help her celebrate her birthday today! Happy birthday Sis!

First Solo Day

I made it through my first solo day. With thanks to my husband for setting me up for success. He had my lunch in a cooler next to the sofa. Hot tea ready and waiting. No need to try and carry anything around. I let  the dog out to the back yard a couple times. I only had to bribe her once to get her inside. (Just say "popcorn.")

I'm glad not every day is a solo day, but I'm thankful I can be on my own when I need to be.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 ESV

Greet the People

It's not every day I get so many visitors. Nice to have my sister and her five daughters in town. I love those girls!

Easter Highlight

One of the highlights this Easter was having our youngest home. I'm so thankful she is attending college close enough to come home for the weekend! Works for all of us.

Keep Them Close

I finally figured out a solution. For the living room. I can stash my crutches on the back of the couch. Keeps them close by, but not in the way. We don't need any trip hazards around here!

Three more weeks off my feet to go. I'm taking it one crutch step at a time!

Blessed Easter 2019

The way we celebrate Easter might change with the stage of life or current circumstances. No little ones gathering eggs these days. And I was disappointed we were not able to attend church today.

But the truth of God's amazing love and power is something to remember and celebrate. Christ is risen. He is risen indeed!

Pictured: Fun memory of Easter past!

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to him, “Yes, Lord; I believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming into the world.” John 11:25-27 ESV

Saturday After Good Friday

It's good to reflect on the Saturday after Good Friday. Be mindful of the gap between Jesus' death and resurrection. Not rush through.

God's purpose will prevail, even when all seems lost.

Pictured: Easter meal a day early with both grandmas and two of our children today.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:3 ESV

Life Group Comes Home

I love our church and I'm sad when I can't attend. But I'm thankful for our Life Group and how they have reached out  to us during my recovery from breaking my ankle and surgery.

Life Group Comes to Us

If you can't go to Life Group, let Life Group come to you. Nice to see our people. They brought dinner and we had a short time of sharing and prayer.

Grand Day Out

I didn't know what to expect at today's appointment with the orthopedic surgeon. Besides hoping for a peek at an X-ray showing the hardware in my foot. (I can show you if you want to see it.)

The good news is my ankle and foot are healing well. Swelling is down. I will need to stay off my foot for another four weeks. So I went home with a fancy cast in Seahawks blue in honor of my Mom, who is a big fan. And twelve less staples.

Pictured: First day out after two weeks post-op and three weeks after my injury.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working James 5:16 ESV

Breakfast Burritos for the Win

My husband took the initiative to make a batch of breakfast burritos. He knows how much I love having an "emergency" supply in the freezer. When I'm off the DL, I'm going to buy the same big tortillas he bought. He really upped the burrito game! And grilled them perfectly. Not bad for his first time making them!

“Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?  Matthew 6:25 ESV

Staying Put

I'm surprised I don't have any signs of cabin fever. Since when have I stayed home and not gone anywhere? Or walked to the mailbox when I want to? There have been seasons with my Multiple Sclerosis, but not in recent history.

A couple things are helping me. I am very well cared for and loved these days. I have meals prepared and brought to me. My family and friends are making sure I have what I need.

I don't even know how many people are praying for me!

I like clear direction. I cannot be on my left foot. I need to rest and recover from the injury and surgery. So I'm sitting back, putting my feet up, and enjoying the unexpected blessings.

Pictured: My faithful companion who has stayed close, but off my feet.

For you are my rock and my fortress; and for your name's sake you lead me and guide me. Psalm 31:3 ESV

Sleepy Time

My sweet husband is on call night and day. He is very gracious when I need fresh ice packs or the pillows adjusted. I know he's tired when he is startled awake and says, "Hello! Who are you?" We have had some laughs and good conversations at all hours. Some of the unexpected blessings during this season of injury and recovery!

Pictured: We're all a little short on sleep around here.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9 ESV

Frittata Frittata Love

My long-time friend came over to fix lunch and visit with me. I had some leftover frittata from the dinner our Life Group friends brought over. My friend brought some of her leftovers to share. And that's how you end up with Frittata Frittata for lunch! It was delicious! I need to get the recipes for both.

We'll have to start meeting up again regularly, broken ankle or not!

Visitor Love

I think our pup is going to be sad when I feel better and am up and around. Then there won't be as many visitors stopping by to let her out during the day. Or my mother-in-law stopping by to fix me lunch the last couple days. I'm going to miss the visits too!

Better than Stashed Away

I'm excited about my baby succulents. But I'm more excited to repurpose a special container to hold my baby succulents! My husband drilled a hole in the blue teapot we bought on our 5th anniversary trip to Hong Kong. Better than stashed away in the cupboard. Works for me!

Happy Birthday, Mom!

My Mom taught me how  to be a good patient and face adversity. I don't think she ever complained about all her medical challenges over the years. She bravely endures but never gives up. I am still learning how to be proactive like she is.

I didn't get to see her on her birthday today, but I did see her yesterday. Happy birthday, Mom!

Ramp it Up

Twenty years ago we added some features to our home just in case I ever needed a wheelchair accessible home. My late father-in-law designed a concrete ramp that is concealed by the retaining wall. Thankfully I haven't had many recent relapses with my Multiple Sclerosis. But I do need a wheelchair ramp now! For as long as it takes to heal and recover from my fractured ankle.

Staying Put

They tell me to put my feet up. So that's what I'm doing. With regular ice packs. The good news is that the pain is subsiding. I'm taking minimal pain medication. Just don't put any weight on the left foot and we're good. Baby steps, that's my game.

Explosion of Pink

Has our ornamental plum ever had so many blossoms? Or do I say that every year?

I'm thankful our son knocked the heavy snow off the tree before any branches broke off.

Recovery Begins

Less than one week after my fall, I donned a hospital gown and fancy hat. Checked in at 8 AM and was soon called back and prepped for surgery. Only one stick to get the IV in--hooray! The actual surgery took about one hour, with waiting time before and after..

The surgeon reported that my ankle was really messed up. He clamped two ligaments together and installed hardware to get ankle bones back in place. I wonder if I will set off alarms when I go through a metal detector!

I was discharged just before 4 PM and happy to go home. Now the recovery begins!

One Little Fall and There You Go

I appreciate the thoughtful prayers, flowers, cards, and meals, I did not expect to go from doing laundry to reclining on the couch for days. It sounds like a dream come true--not doing any housework. But I miss sorting the loads, switching the loads, and  folding. And cooking for my family. But God has something different for me in this season of injury, surgery and recovery.

yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring. What is your life? For you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” James 4:14-15 ESV
