Fellowship Week Love

This week was what we call Fellowship week at Bible Study Fellowship. Which means we had extra time to share in depth what God is teaching us. I love all my ladies. They each bring a unique story and testimony.

Heart to Heart

Every now and then you need a refresher. A chance to get together and catch up. Find out what's new. Reaffirm your sweet friendship. Like today's coffee date with my dear friend. Works for us!

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV

I Know That Lady!

It's been a while since our paths crossed. Nice to see my mom at the store briefly today!

Good Morning, Squirrel!

I have learned to trust our dog. If she is intently looking out the window, there is probably some critter out there.

Sure enough, there was a squirrel on the fence this morning.  And thank you for not barking! (If it was a cat, that would be another story.)

Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. Genesis 2:19 ESV

Chicken Memories

It was six years ago this month that we started with chickens. I miss those chickens and the fresh eggs! I don't think it would work to have chickens now. Not sure what our dog would think about sharing the back yard.

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Genesis 1:26 ESV

Grad Pup Love

I was so proud of our pup today. She did great at her last class and officially graduated from Adult Level 2 at Petco. We need to keep practicing manners, but she has made great strides.

Feeling the Life Group Love

I guess they missed me! I stayed home from Life Group because I was really tired. They took some photos to let me know they missed me. How sweet! Love our faithful group from Harbor Church!

More Perspectives

I loved every week of my Perspectives class. And now my husband is taking it on Tuesday nights in Olympia. I attended last night as an alumnus. I hope I can go every week and hear the speakers that come from all the world.

Ninja Blender Love

The recipe calls for using a food processor. But my son's Ninja Blender is powerful and can handle the job. Garbanzo bean chocolate chip cookies coming right up! I love this recipe that is gluten-free and dairy-free, as long as your oats are GF and the chocolate is dairy-free.

Already Looking Forward

I already started looking forward. It seems hard to believe, but this tree won't be bare forever. Spring will come and the leaves will return.

The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23, ESV

Timely Verses

Do you ever have a verse that regularly comes to mind and shows up in your reading? And then you find a bookmark when going through old papers and there it is again. It's timely!

Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV

Remembering the Random

That was a fun memory three years ago. My older daughter and I ran in to my parents in Olympia. I loved those random meetups!

One Last Job

I don't say thank you when I get rid of clothes and socks. I just give them one last job. Like this old sock that I cut into pieces. Perfect for cleaning around the house! Use like a rag, turn inside out, use again, then toss.

Would Have Been 80 Today

I miss my dad. I saw a funny video of raccoons playing on a bike that he would have enjoyed. My sadness is tempered by relief that my dad didn't suffer much at the end of his full life. And I have overwhelming gratitude for the love and legacy my dad left behind.

Today would have been my dad's 80th birthday.

Pictured: A fun memory from March, 2016. We should go to Wendy's soon and have a Frosty in dad's honor!

Senior Love

Can you find me in this old photo? From my senior year at Taipei American School in the early 80's. Now I'm a different kind of senior. Ready for those senior discounts!

Breakfast Burrito Love

I call them Emergency Breakfast Burritos. Not necessarily for breakfast. I like to whip up a batch and freeze them. Makes for a quick meal. Just unwrap the foil and microwave for 2 minutes. You can cook eggs, hash browns, and meat separately and assemble. Or follow a recipe for Instant Pot Breakfast Burritos. Grill. Freeze.Works for us!

Journal Goal

It's hard to capture the beauty all around us. Like the glorious sunsets or mysterious foggy mornings. If I am a passenger I can try to take a photo with my phone.

One thing I can do is write down what God is teaching me. I used to be more faithful at journaling. It is one of my goals for the new year.

I will ponder all your work, and meditate on your mighty deeds. Your way, O God, is holy. What god is great like our God? You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. Psalm 77:12-14 ESV

Totally Redone

We had a quick date night to check out the new McDonald's in town. Same location, brand new building from the foundation up. It will be nice to have a place to meet for coffee with plenty of seating. Works for us!

Change Your Preference

I missed out on many good meals growing up. I didn't appreciate all the Chinese food we had in Hong Kong. I remember eating the white rice and cashews at round tables.

I did not appreciate sour cream or yogurt until later in life. And is it weird that now I love cilantro? Food preferences can change!

Leafy Green

Speaking of plants, my Kalanchoe is leafing well and seems healthy. I wonder how long it will take to flower again. I will try a new location with more light and see how it grows.

Stop Talking Already

I really need to stop talking. Like I wrote ten years ago on my blog. I am still saying the same things. I want to get organized and healthy, write more, and plan our menus. Blah blah blah.

But I know that I am making progress. Little by little. Thanks for being patient with me!

Church Birthday Photo Booth 2019

I wish we had a little more fun with our photo. We forgot to grab some props for the photo booth at church on Sunday. But we smiled and our eyes were open! Happy 4th birthday to Harbor Church!

Happy Houseplant Love

I don't consider myself to have a green thumb. That's my husband's forte. But I do enjoy my indoor plants. I loved visiting my niece's home in Portland this weekend. She has happy houseplants by every window! Beautiful!

The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:12 ESV

Happy 4th Birthday Harbor Church!

Happy birthday to our church! We are thankful for our pastors, staff, and faithful band of believers who call Harbor Church home.

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20 ESV

Portland Baby Shower

Have driver, will travel! Nice to have our older daughter be the designated driver for a day trip to Portland and back. We attended a baby shower for our nephew's wife. It was a fun event and a great day with my mother-in-law and daughters.

Ready for 2019

Somehow I neglected to buy next year's calendar. Which is now this year. Thankfully I ran into my friend at the store and told her what I was looking for. She just happened to have one at home she didn't need. Works for me!

Bald Eagle Love

What a way to start the year! My husband had a record day at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually wildlife refuge. Guess how many bald eagles he saw? Twelve!

Personal Challenge 2019

My default setting is research mode. I love reading and learning. But my personal challenge for the new year is to take more action. Prayerfully. Put into practice what I know. Test the waters. See what works. Adjust as necessary.

Pictured: Reflection from Bainbridge Island waterfront

Start the Year with Prayer

I love my new book, Prayers for Today: A Yearlong Journey of Contemplative Prayer by Kurt Bjorklund. Thanks, Mom for ordering it for me!

Today I read Day 15's selection including this prayer by Leighton Ford. It fits New Year's Day perfectly.

Lord, give me I pray:
A remembering heart for the things that have happened
An attentive heart to what I have heard
A forgiving heart for what has hurt
A grateful heart for what has blessed
A brave heart for what may be required
An open heart to all that may come
A trusting heart to go forth with You
A loving heart for You and all Your creation
A longing heart for the reconciliation of all things.
A willing heart to say "Yes" to what You will.

Only be very careful to observe the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cling to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul." Joshua 22:5 ESV
