Find the Spice

I could go to the regular grocery store and find what I'm looking for. But what fun is that? I stopped by our bargain shop and hunted for the spice on my list. Found one little container of mace. Works for me!

She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. Proverbs 31:14 ESV

Harbor Church Christmas Love

I'm looking forward to the reveal on Sunday. Harbor Church will be all decked out for Christmas!

Pictured: My husband and I stopped by the decorating party and helped a little bit.

And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 ESV

Doggy Field Trip

Remember how I am taking our dog to class? She needs more training on how to meet people and dogs. This week's assignment included taking her out in public. She was a little distracted by the displays of dog food. But she didn't bark too much, and even got a dog treat from the checker.

Pictured:  With thanks to my husband, who came along as the driver, photographer, and shopper.

Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. Genesis 2:19 ESV

Ready, Set, Bake!

I have an idea for a Christmas baking project. For old times' sake. Our family misses our favorite bagel store in Olympia that closed. We should bake some bagels! Sounds like a plan.

Pictured: Family reunion with bagels in 2014.

Christmas Memories

As I look forward to Christmas this year, I am looking through photos from Christmas past. I wonder what was so funny four years ago.

Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Psalm 25:6 ESV

Game Night Thanksgiving 2018

If my brother-in-law and sister-in-law are in town, a game night is in order! With thanks to my mother-in-law for hosting.

Time to Relax

Just what a college students needs. A little down time with her favorite pup.

Happy Thanksgiving to our family!

Simple Thanksgiving 2018

I'm thankful for the quiet days. Keep it simple. Take it easy and make dinner for only three people. With a roaster for the turkey, Instant Pot for the mashed potatoes, stove top for the gravy and oven for the green bean casserole and rolls. Works for the us!

Pictured: Naps are the best!

The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Psalm 28:7 ESV

Stare Me Down

Now I know why our dog barks. That squirrel is intense! We had an intense stare-down from the fence to the kitchen window. For well over five minutes. Enough time to take a photo.

And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds." And it was so. Genesis 1:24 ESV

Walk off the Pie

It's good to walk it off. Either before or after you have holiday food. Like we did at our Early Thanksgiving gathering yesterday.

EarlyThanksgiving 2018

It's hard to find a time when everyone can get together. Let's have an early Thanksgiving meal. Works for us!

Lady Day!

My older daughter, our son's girlfriend and I had an impromptu Lady Day. We drove through Silverdale on the way to my daughter's home on Bainbridge Island. With stops at the thrift store and Costco food court. We should do that more often. When my younger daughter is free to go!

Time to Make Progress

I've been on mission for years. As documented by 12 years of blogging every day. Yesterday was my 12-year blogiversary. I'm still saying the same things. Wanting to declutter and get organized.

It's been a long, slow process, but I am finally making progress. For real.

What I wrote on November 26, 2006:

I don’t want a spotless house. I want a home that is inviting, comfortable, easy to maintain, and inspires hospitality and creativity. I need to face my fears about getting rid of stuff:

1. I might need it.
2. Someone might need it.
3. It costs money to replace it.
4. I won’t be able to replace it.
5. I don’t want to feel guilty about spending money on it in the first place.

It’s time to let go.

For everything there is a season,…a time to keep, and a time to cast away. Ecclesiastes 3:1, 6 ESV

Our Favorite COTA!

All her hard work paid off. Our son's girlfriend graduated from her Occupational Therapy Assistant program and passed her certification exam! We are so proud of her!

And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. 1 Thessalonians 5:14 ESV

Lunch Ladies

The timing worked out to meet up for lunch. Nice to spend time with my mother-in-law, older daughter, and my son's girlfriend today.

Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14 ESV

Quick Trip Home

We are glad to have our older daughter visiting for a couple days. She had a break in her schedule, perfect for a quick trip home. Works for us. And the pup!

Shout Out to Veterans

I am grateful for family and friends who have served our country. And continue to serve.

Not just the ones who go. The ones who stay behind are heroes too! God bless you, and keep you all safe!

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9 ESV

Christmas Wreath 2018

Ready for the season! Our Christmas wreath was hand-delivered by my mother-in-law. That was thoughtful! Last year my husband bought one for her.

We have a lovely wreath and evergreen place just down the road from us. They ship, too!

I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. Psalm 77:11 ESV

For Real!

If dogs could understand, I would tell our pup I'm sorry I doubted her. I saw the squirrel (not a chipmunk) running along the fence. She has a reason to watch and wait. I'm not sure what she would do if the squirrel got close. Probably bark and give chase.

Pictured: Back on watch duty after the squirrel went by this morning.

Still Waiting

How long will she keep waiting and hoping? Maybe she is tracking the chipmunk to the tree and knows it is in the area. Waiting is a theme in the Bible too. Believing with faith that God will answer prayers. In His time and in His ways.

Pictured: Under the tree today.

Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you. Psalm 33:22 ESV

Houseplant Love

My husband and daughter had so much fun at the plant store. Here's to new indoor houseplants for her dorm room!

The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:12 ESV

Faithful to the End

What makes one leaf hang on? All the other leaves fell off the Japanese maple. What makes the difference?

Earlier this year in Bible Study Fellowship we studied about Joshua and Caleb and how they were the last ones left from their generation. They were faithful to the end. Now I am studying about Samuel. He listened to God and followed God his whole life.

And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. 1 Samuel 3:19 ESV

And They're Back

Sure enough, the hydrangea survived winter. And they're back! I love the different seasons we get to experience in our part of the world.

Pictured: Hydrangea outside the Shelton hospital.

And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, Matthew 6:28 ESV

Back to the Basement

It's been too long since we had breakfast at the Basement Bistro. Nice to meet up with my mother-in-law and our daughter! Breakfast is still a good deal, but they no longer cook eggs to order.

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV

Right Out the Front Door

I want to enjoy it while it lasts. Don't miss the beauty all around. These colorful leaves will be gone soon enough.

Pictured: The maple right out my front door, with a carpet of leaves in the yard.

Halloween Past

It's fun looking through old photos. Found a photo of our youngest on Halloween past. I wonder what she was thinking. Probably admiring her three older siblings' creative pumpkin sculptures.

You cause the grass to grow for the livestock and plants for man to cultivate, that he may bring forth food from the earth Psalm 104:14 ESV
