When You Grew Up Attending Sunday School

The woman next to me was looking at cards for sale at a rummage sale. She asked if I was a "C." Meaning: did my first or last name start with C? I said I'm not a C. But I'm a C.H.R.I.S.T.I.A.N. And I have C.H.R.I.S.T. in my H.E.A.R.T.

I had to explain that it was a song.

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. Proverbs 22:6 ESV

From Their Porch to Ours

I love how we have a reminder of our neighbors that moved away. They gave us their trellis. My husband planted a wisteria that is climbing right up.

I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5 ESV

Blondies Restaurant Love

I felt like we stepped back in time. The Blondies restaurant in downtown Shelton had that small town diner vibe. With friendly service, tasty food, and quick refills of coffee. Fun breakfast date with my husband this morning.

Enjoy life with the wife whom you love, all the days of your vain life that he has given you under the sun, because that is your portion in life and in your toil at which you toil under the sun. Ecclesiastes 9:9 ESV

May What Come

I am not ready for May! I need to graduate to written lists. I can't keep track of everything in my head anymore.

Sister Bonding

Happy birthday to my sister! I have always appreciated and valued her, but more so as we grow older. Last year was a special bonding time after we lost our Dad. Glad we have each other!

Is there a D R in the house?

My husband has been working hard in stages. First: dismantle the DR Trimmer so it can be reloaded. No easy task. Then reassemble all the parts.

Today he fired it up and was good to go. Ready to return to my Mom so she can get more work done on her property. Glad he could take care of that for her!

If the iron is blunt, and one does not sharpen the edge, he must use more strength, but wisdom helps one to succeed. Ecclesiastes 10:10 ESV

Dinner Delivery Love

Another successful dinner delivery for our Life Group. This time we took sub sandwiches, with a gluten-free option, fruit, carrots, chips, and dessert. Happy to support the students and leaders of All God's People at The Evergreen State College.

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. Hebrews 13:16 ESV

The Law

I am loving this new sermon series at Harbor Church Olympia. I probably say that every series. I am learning so much about the Sermon on the Mount. Plus I appreciate how Pastor Seth puts things in context. When Jesus mentions the law and the prophets, what is that referring to? You can listen online:

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. Matthew 5:17 ESV

Looking Up

Spring is officially here. I am thankful for the beautiful days with color all around.

Faithful Walkers

I appreciate how faithful my husband is. Takes our dog on walks almost every day. Our son is good to go when he is available.

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the LORD! Psalm 119:1 ESV

Visit Little Friends

It was fun to visit my friend and see how her children have grown. The four-year-old took this photo of me and her little brother.

but Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven." Matthew 19:14 ESV

Baking List

It's been a while since I baked some bread. I should try the dutch oven bread again! Maybe mix in some spelt flour for a change.

Tulip Delivery Love

We didn't get up to see the tulip fields this year. But the tulips came to me! Special delivery from my mother-in-law. Very thoughtful!

And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, Matthew 6:28 ESV

Walk Grandma's Dog

What do you do when it stops raining for a little while? Take Grandma's dog for a walk.

Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. Genesis 2:19 ESV

Just Hem It

I don't usually take a shower in the hall bathroom. But I'm glad I did. I had no idea how long the shower curtain was. Not a problem. I can set up the sewing machine and hem it. That's within my (limited) sewing skill set.

there is a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;  Ecclesiastes 3:7 ESV

Sermon the Mount

How many times have I read the sermon on the mount in Matthew? Lots to learn in Pastor Seth's new series at Harbor Church in Olympia. You can catch them online.

"You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people's feet. "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Matthew 5:13-14 ESV

April Shower Love

We didn't let a few showers get in the way of a great day together. I am thankful for safe travels to Tacoma and back with our daughter.

But wait, there's more

My husband's Daphne plant has few pink flowers left. But today I noticed the green shoots. That means new growth for next year.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

Life Group Makes it a Meal

We enjoy our monthly potluck and viewing of a DVD from Dispatches from the Front.

I like how the appetizers fit together into a complete meal. You never know what people will bring, but you know it will be good. I made quesadilla casserole because I had the ingredients on hand.

For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it. Mark 8:35 ESV

Taking the Next Step

The time has not been right. Until now. I have prayerfully decided to take the next step and be in leadership at Bible Study Fellowship.  I attend training on Mondays and shadow discussion group leaders on Wednesdays. I love studying God's Word and I love studying and praying with other women!

So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding. Romans 14:19 ESV

Random Letter Love

I love finding creative uses for things. Like the bag of random bling letters from the thrift store. My son helped me create the letter K out of other letters. Perfect for my friend Kay's birthday.

What letters do you see?

Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend,
and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity.
Better is a neighbor who is near
than a brother who is far away. Proverbs 27:10 ESV

Generations at the Lake

How many family pictures have been taken on my grandparents' lake front property? Covering five generations and counting. I found one with my mom and our youngest at age 10 months. Lots of memories there.

For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:5 ESV

Happy Birthday, Mom!

Happy birthday to my dear Mom! Glad we could host a burrito dinner party--with homemade tortillas made by our friend, who was able to join us tonight.

With thanks to my mother-in-law for her delicious dessert.

Walk MS: Olympia 2018

It's inspiring to see people of all ages turn out for the MS Walk. And several dogs. Even if the weather is breezy and threatening to rain. My team didn't walk this year. We were volunteers.

The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. Psalm 118:14 ESV

Beat the Rain

My husband wanted to beat the rain. So he changed his clothes and got right outside. Mowed the lawn and did some weed eating. Our yard and for the woman next door. Great job!

And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17 ESV

Welcome Home Basket Love

It was about time for a welcome home basket. Glad to have my mother-in-law back from sunny California!

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. Psalm 5:11 ESV

Feed the Birds

I've seen this guy before. Parked in the same spot. With dozens of sea gulls on and around his car. He likes to feed the birds and comes prepared.

Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! Luke 12:24 ESV

Perfect Timing

I was walking down the street at the perfect time. Good to see our former neighbors. They were in town just for the day. Sure miss having them two houses away!

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." Mark 12:30-31 ESV

Easter at Harbor Church

If you can't get your whole family for a photo, go for two. Works for us!

But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:5-6 ESV

Easter 2018

There's more than one way to have an Easter egg hunt. Our son's girlfriend hid egg stickers around the house. Made for a friendly competition between brother and sister. And entertainment for the rest of us.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 1 Peter 1:3 ESV
