Carpool Buddy

One of the highlights of my Perspectives Missions class is getting there. I am thankful for my carpool buddy. I drive to Sue's house and she drives to Olympia. She is a long-time friend and it's been good to catch up. Plus we can reflect and respond to the lesson on the way home.

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11 ESV

Filled with Love

Our Life Group knows how to work together and get things done. We sewed 48 Christmas stockings and contributed goodies to fill them. They are for a Christmas party at Evergreen State College next week.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, Hebrews 10:24 ESV

Turkey Love

We have friends that are so generous. I can't even remember how many years they have been giving us a turkey and ham for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We are so loved!

Pictured: This year's turkey. It was so tender and delicious!

Sew Smarter

I sewed a little smarter this time. I divided the fabric with a couple friends in our Life Group. We each did our part. Ready to fill with treats for college students at All God's People at Evergreen College!

Pictured: Finished sewing my stockings. This year's fabric is green flannel from a re-purposed king-size duvet.

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. Hebrews 13:16 ESV

Find the Balance

I am looking for balance in my life. I want to enjoy the moment. Be thankful for today. But also set goals and prepare for what comes next. Like Christmas.

More Thanksgiving

We don't have Thanksgiving dinner on only one certain day. We can stagger the dinners. Eat with my relatives one day. And have a meal with my husband's brother and wife another day. Three of our children, plus two, were able to join us today. Works for us.

Pictured: Some of the group today, after eating and playing cards.

Over the Parking Lot

There can be beauty in the busy-ness. Moments that draw your eyes upward. And quiet your heart.

Thanksgiving 2017

The best part of Thanksgiving this year? All the generations together. Eating, talking, laughing. The worst part of Thanksgiving? Missing the people who weren't there.

Pictured: Some of the people at my aunt and uncle's home, with my cousins, foster kids, grandma, a friend, my mom, and my niece.

For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations. Psalm 100:5 ESV

Thankful for Rachel

If your birthday is close to Thanksgiving, you might get overlooked. But today we are thankful for Rachel. She has become very dear to our family.

Happy birthday, Rachel!

Looking Good

We love her when she is big and fluffy. And we love her when she is groomed and oh so soft!

Now out of the ground the LORD God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. Genesis 2:19 ESV

Day with Mom

If you have to get lab work done and see the doctor, you know what that means. It's time for a quick trip for coffee (or hot water, if you are watching caffeine) and lunch. Some day we will spend time together just for fun. But we can redeem the day. Works for Mom and me.

Let your steadfast love, O LORD, be upon us, even as we hope in you. Psalm 33:22 ESV

Pear Love

I wish I could paint. Or even just mix colors. I love the beauty of pears. They are almost too pretty to eat.

The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:12 ESV

Happy Birthday, Nate!

I was a proud aunt 21 years ago. I still am. But now I see Nate as more of a friend than little kid. He is always willing to help drive, cook, clean up, or whatever needs to be done.

Happy 21st birthday!

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18 ESV

Friday Breakfast

Good to start the day with hot breakfast. Even better when your son joins you.

Because your steadfast love is better than life, my lips will praise you. Psalm 63:3 ESV

Quiet Reflections

I need more quiet time. To reflect, journal, and set goals. Prayerfully.

Pictured: Walking across the SPSCC campus before most of the leaves came down.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:8-9 ESV

Enjoy the Ride

We enjoy taking the Bremerton to Seattle ferry. Avoid unpredictable traffic. Watch out the window. Walk around the deck. Sit and talk. Or just sit. And enjoy the ride.

Pictured: With our daughter last weekend.

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV

Fill Up the Screen

I like how I started. I wrote daily blog posts, short and sweet. With a Bible verse. With or without accompanying photo.

Eleven years later, I haven't missed many days. I am still learning and growing. Chipping away at getting organized. But I haven't given up.

Charge Up

You know what is hard to find? A good outlet. They are few and far between at coffee shops and fast food restaurants. Better charge up before you go!

Pictured: Found an available outlet the other day.

Sock Drop

We concluded our sock drive in October, otherwise known as Socktober. Harbor Church members kicked in a total of 188 pairs. We delivered half to Community Lifeline in Shelton and half to Union Gospel Mission in Olympia.

Sunset Watchers

The view never gets old. Yesterday's ferry ride from Bremerton to Seattle was especially breathtaking. Love sunsets!

Happy birthday to my "adopted" mom who took me in during college. And been a faithful friend ever since.

Happy 80th birthday!!!

Both in Romans

My husband and I are now on the same page. We are both studying Romans in Bible Study Fellowship. He joined the men's group on Monday nights in Olympia. I think he is going to love it!

and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:5

Veggie Chili Love

I think the class liked my chili. People take turns bringing food for dinner before the Perspectives class. I made vegetarian chili, loaded with peppers, squash, onion. With both pinto and black beans. My friend in the class made corn bread muffins.

Pictured: Did not bring any leftovers home! (Good thing I set some aside for my people at home.)

For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with words of eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:17-18 ESV

Registration Success

My daughter makes it look easy. Another successful class registration done. No wait lists or backup plans needed. Just one more quarter to go after winter term.

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105 ESV

Last Opportunity

There was one last opportunity. To get the moss off the roof before the rain and snow. Glad my husband is sure-footed!

November Snack Table

I love how our Life Group works together. We pulled together a great snack table after both services. With fall decorations and good food.

Enjoy it While it Lasts

Guess who enjoyed the morning snow? Our dog loves the snow. She ran and played and ate as much snow as she could. While it lasted.

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:7 ESV

Early November Snow

I was surprised when I opened the door this morning. Snow! It snowed for a while and was gone by this afternoon.

Pictured: Saw snow on the hydrangea by the hospital when we went for breakfast.

Homework Sessions

My Perspectives class keeps me busy, but I enjoy the reading and the studying. It's been a bonus to have homework sessions with my daughter. With coffee.

The LORD has made known his salvation; he has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. Psalm 98:2 ESV

Dispatches Tradition

I like our monthly tradition. Our Life Group Bible study started watching one episode of Dispatches from the Front at the first meeting of the month. With appetizers.

We are on episode 6 out of 10. Helps us know how to pray for the unreached and persecuted Christians around the world.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5 ESV
