Halloween 2017

No cute little costumed people here. But our puppy didn't mind the cape. For just a minute.

even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you. Psalm 139:12 ESV

Bright Spot of Color

I don't think I am affected by the weather, like some people are. But I have noticed how dark it is in the morning and early in the evening. I do love spots of color. Like the pink flower at the nursery yesterday.

Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith! Luke 12:27-28 ESV

Birthday Plant Love

My husband loves admiring the trees and plants. Today he cashed in his birthday gift certificate and picked out a new plant. A winter Daphne that will have fragrant flowers, but is beautiful now.

Stir up the Stir Fry

I changed it up once with good success. Tofu worked. I wondered how thin beef strips would do. I marinated the beef with a little soy sauce and canola oil. And followed the recipe for Sheet Pan Sesame Chicken and Veggies. Another family favorite!

Manage the Time

I'm not the best time manager. But I try to do first things first. Order my errands by importance. And if I buy ice cream at the grocery store, home is the next stop.

Pictured: Time is running out for the leaves on the maple in our front yard.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. Ecclesiastes 3:11 ESV

Layers of Color

I've never noticed the layers before. There is a tree on the South Puget Sound Community College with perfect layers of green, orange, and red.

The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:12 ESV

Celebrate at Life Group

If the leader of your Life Group has a birthday the previous day, might as well celebrate. Have brownies and ice cream after your Bible study and prayer time. Our hosts do a nice job of decorating and making us all feel welcome.

Pictured: Celebrating my husband's birthday tonight. He didn't mind losing a couple years. He is actually 57, not 54.

Love Him More

Happy 57th birthday to my husband! I am blessed to have spent over half of his birthdays with him. Love him more every year!

He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 ESV

Paint the Colors

I wish I could paint the colors I see. Photos don't reveal the graduated shades of red and orange. Like the Japanese maple in our backyard.

Pictured: My husband loves Japanese maples and has his dad to thank for many of them.

Shout with joy to God, all the earth! Sing the glory of his name; make his praise glorious! Psalm 66:1-2 ESV

Husband's Birthday Dinner Love

Let the birthday celebrations begin. With a family dinner for my husband. With our kids, our son's girlfriend, and both my mother-in-law and my mom. With thanks to my mother-in-law for hosting us!

But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, "Great is the LORD!" Psalm 40:16 ESV

Seattle Tradition

We still enjoy splitting a salmon dinner at the Crab Pot. But it's always bittersweet to remember how much my late father-in-law loved that place.

Make it a Trip

If your daughter needs a ride to Seattle, might as well make it a trip.  Drive to Bremerton and hop on the ferry. With the added bonus of your husband available to drive. Works for us.

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 ESV

Beautiful Campus

I can see the end of my time on campus. Two more quarters and then our fourth child will be done at South Puget Sound Community College. I'm going to miss that beautiful campus and the helpful and professional staff people.

Miss My Friends

I miss the people who used to be there. Every Wednesday morning I think about the women who no longer come to my Bible Study Fellowship class. Some are in heaven. And many are on a different schedule now. I am thankful for the sure hope that one day all believers will be reunited in heaven.

Camera Comes in Handy

I learned a trick from my son. I took a photo of my car tire so I could walk in and get a quote on new tires. It's handy to have a camera in my pocket!

Inspiring Missionaries

I didn't expect to enjoy the history section so much. It's been fascinating and inspiring to learn about the missionary pioneers. Like William Carey who expected great things from God. And attempted great things for God.

I'm half-way through my Perspectives on the World Christian Movement class.

Bagel Days Gone By

I still feel sad when I drive by. Hard to believe Bagel Brothers is closed for good. So many good memories over the years.

Juice Pro

We are late to the juicing party. But we have a new machine and love it. Our son is a pro. Bring on the beets, carrots, apples, lemon, and ginger. For starters!

Always Good to Visit

It's always good to visit with my cousin when she's in town. Love having cousins that are good friends!

Walk Away from the Stir Fry

I have a new favorite way to make stir fry dinners. Tastes great and the family loves it. But the best part is that you prepare everything, put it in the oven and walk away. Seriously!

I found the recipe for Sheet Pan Sesame Chicken and Veggies online. Then adapted it with tofu tonight.

Colors of Fall

It's good to look up. See the beautiful trees changing color. And look down and notice a leaf on your driveway. I love the colors of fall!

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. Romans 1:19-20 ESV

Between the Rocks

I love volunteers. Like the snap dragon that grew up between the rocks and the wall.

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, Matthew 6:27-28 ESV

Our Faithful Savior

Remember the old Sunday school stories about Gideon and the fleece? You might want to listen to Pastor Seth's latest sermon in the Judges series.

The main point: The fear of God leads us to his loving embrace, while the fear of man leads us to sorrowful destruction.

Socks in a Box

Our Life Group kicked off our sock drive at church today. We will be collecting new socks to donate to Community Lifeline in Shelton and the Olympia Union Gospel Mission.

Thanks to MA in our group, for decorating the box!

Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. Hebrews 13:1-3 ESV

Books on a Shelf

Sometimes I'm tempted to reshelve books at the thrift store. Put things where they belong. Or maybe someone had a sense of humor and put a kid's book with the cookbooks.

Pictured: One of these books is not like the others.

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV

Dispatches from the Front

Once a month we have a special Life Group Bible study. With appetizers and a video. We are watching Dispatches from the Front, a documentary-style video journal of one man's journey to see what God is doing around the world. I highly recommend the series.

Dinner Comes Together

It was my turn to take some food for my Perspectives class. But I ran short on time. The chicken was done but I didn't have time to cook the potatoes in soup. So I adjusted and made a Mexican soup with black beans and the chicken. Thankfully someone else brought chips and slices of avocado. It all came together.

Harbor Church Baptism Day

It's always inspiring to see people make public professions of faith and get baptized. And today my husband was in the tank to help with the baptisms.

Pictured: My husband and his friend helped baptize someone at Harbor Church today. This photo was taken by a photographer and posted on the church Facebook page.
