Seattle Tradition

We still enjoy splitting a salmon dinner at the Crab Pot. But it's always bittersweet to remember how much my late father-in-law loved that place.

Make it a Trip

If your daughter needs a ride to Seattle, might as well make it a trip.  Drive to Bremerton and hop on the ferry. With the added bonus of your husband available to drive. Works for us.

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 ESV

Beautiful Campus

I can see the end of my time on campus. Two more quarters and then our fourth child will be done at South Puget Sound Community College. I'm going to miss that beautiful campus and the helpful and professional staff people.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23 ESV

Miss My Friends

I miss the people who used to be there. Every Wednesday morning I think about the women who no longer come to my Bible Study Fellowship class. Some are in heaven. And many are on a different schedule now. I am thankful for the sure hope that one day all believers will be reunited in heaven.

Camera Comes in Handy

I learned a trick from my son. I took a photo of my car tire so I could walk in and get a quote on new tires. It's handy to have a camera in my pocket!

Inspiring Missionaries

I didn't expect to enjoy the history section so much. It's been fascinating and inspiring to learn about the missionary pioneers. Like William Carey who expected great things from God. And attempted great things for God.

I'm half-way through my Perspectives on the World Christian Movement class.

What do you think? If a man has a hundred sheep, and one of them has gone astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine on the mountains and go in search of the one that went astray? Matthew 18:12 ESV

Bagel Days Gone By

I still feel sad when I drive by. Hard to believe Bagel Brothers is closed for good. So many good memories over the years.

Juice Pro

We are late to the juicing party. But we have a new machine and love it. Our son is a pro. Bring on the beets, carrots, apples, lemon, and ginger. For starters!

Always Good to Visit

It's always good to visit with my cousin when she's in town. Love having cousins that are good friends!

Walk Away from the Stir Fry

I have a new favorite way to make stir fry dinners. Tastes great and the family loves it. But the best part is that you prepare everything, put it in the oven and walk away. Seriously!

I found the recipe for Sheet Pan Sesame Chicken and Veggies online. Then adapted it with tofu tonight.

Colors of Fall

It's good to look up. See the beautiful trees changing color. And look down and notice a leaf on your driveway. I love the colors of fall!

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. Romans 1:19-20 ESV

Between the Rocks

I love volunteers. Like the snap dragon that grew up between the rocks and the wall.

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, Matthew 6:27-28 ESV

Our Faithful Savior

Remember the old Sunday school stories about Gideon and the fleece? You might want to listen to Pastor Seth's latest sermon in the Judges series.

The main point: The fear of God leads us to his loving embrace, while the fear of man leads us to sorrowful destruction.

But the Spirit of the LORD clothed Gideon, and he sounded the trumpet, and the Abiezrites were called out to follow him. Judges 6:34 ESV

Socks in a Box

Our Life Group kicked off our sock drive at church today. We will be collecting new socks to donate to Community Lifeline in Shelton and the Olympia Union Gospel Mission.

Thanks to MA in our group, for decorating the box!

Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body. Hebrews 13:1-3 ESV

Books on a Shelf

Sometimes I'm tempted to reshelve books at the thrift store. Put things where they belong. Or maybe someone had a sense of humor and put a kid's book with the cookbooks.

Dispatches from the Front

Once a month we have a special Life Group Bible study. With appetizers and a video. We are watching Dispatches from the Front, a documentary-style video journal of one man's journey to see what God is doing around the world. I highly recommend the series.

Dinner Comes Together

It was my turn to take some food for my Perspectives class. But I ran short on time. The chicken was done but I didn't have time to cook the potatoes in soup. So I adjusted and made a Mexican soup with black beans and the chicken. Thankfully someone else brought chips and slices of avocado. It all came together.

Harbor Church Baptism Day

It's always inspiring to see people make public professions of faith and get baptized. And today my husband was in the tank to help with the baptisms.

Pictured: My husband and his friend helped baptize someone at Harbor Church today. This photo was taken by a photographer and posted on the church Facebook page.

We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. Romans 6:4 ESV

There were some tender moments when my family was together this summer. Like this photo of my sister and our Gramma.

Bagel Memories

No more bagels for us. Not from our favorite bagel store in Olympia since they recently closed. We have been going to Bagel Brothers for years. Sad to have the memories stop.

All Ties Together

It's not easy taking two Bible studies at one time. But I love how my study in Romans ties in with my study of missions. It's just super busy for a season.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith for faith, as it is written, "The righteous shall live by faith." Romans 1:16-17 ESV

One Verse in Judges

What can you learn from one verse in the Old Testament? Plenty. I love how Pastor Seth Winterhalter provides context and digs deep.

Today's sermon was from the Judges: Longing for a Savior series.

Click on this link and the audio for today's sermon will start:

After him was Shamgar the son of Anath, who killed 600 of the Philistines with an oxgoad, and he also saved Israel. Judges 3:31 ESV

Yeti to Go

I love my cup from my older daughter. I can transfer my hot tea in the morning if I have to run out the door. And it works great for my new favorite cold beverage. Who knew seltzer water and ice was so refreshing? Learned that from my daughter too.

Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country. Proverbs 25:25 ESV

Breakfast for Dinner or Vice Versa

I don't mind breakfast for dinner. Like a frittata with whatever veggies I have on hand. Like tonight's with grated baked sweet potato, onion, and red pepper.

Bonus: I can have leftovers for breakfast tomorrow.

Mom has Homework

Sometimes I have to get away. So I can do my Bible study homework. I am taking two classes right now. Bible Study Fellowship on Wednesday mornings and Perspectives on Tuesday nights. I can drink coffee and catch up on my reading and studying while our daughter is in class in Olympia.

Hello Senior

I'm glad our daughter isn't too old for first day of school photos. Like today's first day of her senior year of high school. She is well on her way to completing her AA degree at the community college, thanks to the Running Start program.

Get Sewing

The months have a way of slipping away. I wanted to start making Christmas stockings way ahead of Christmas this year. There is still time to get sewing! After I find the fabric.

Never Forget

Our youngest has no memory of that day. But we will never forget watching the news and being in shock on 9-11. I'm glad our hope is in God and not in our country or governments.

Deserve a Break

We both deserve a break tonight. Our puppy did a great job getting her shots. She handled all the other dogs and people around without too much barking.

I got some routine blood work done. Actually, it's the lab technician that deserves a break. I am a tough case and don't give it up easily. He used a heating pad and successfully did the blood draw in one try. Painfree.

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 ESV

Got it Covered

I had a mission to accomplish for a family gathering before my dad's memorial. I needed to find tablecloths for multiple long tables and picnic tables. With little time. I'll spare you the details of my search and skip to the happy ending.

I found two huge curtains at the Goodwill. Perfect for cutting apart and covering the long tables. My mom had matching smaller tablecloths. And they all matched!
