Meet at Wendy's

We were all in Olympia at the same time. Perfect opportunity to meet for lunch. Works for us!

Good Old Red

I can't even keep my kids' names straight. So it's no surprise that every now and then I call our puppy by our former dog's name.

Red was a really good dog. We had it easy with him. We adopted him when he was around two, so we didn't go through the puppy phase. We are all getting trained this time around.

Walk in the Rain

A little rain didn't hurt anyone. And it's good before or after a big meal.

B and B

It was a spur-of-the-moment meet-up for lunch. Breakfast burritos and bagels to share. Free coffee on Sunday at Bagel Brothers. Works for us!

Second Thanksgiving

Today our immediate family gathered for our second Thanksgiving dinner. All four children, one girlfriend, and Grandma. Works for us.

Thanksgiving 2016

It is always good to come together for a meal at my uncle and aunt's home. We celebrated Thanksgiving with my Gramma, my parents, my sister and family from Oregon, my cousins and one spouse, and three foster children. Glad my mother-in-law could be with us, plus two out of four of our children.

Sewing Thanks

A belated thank you to my 8th grade home ec teacher for teaching me how to use a sewing machine. My mom modeled how to creatively stretch the fabric and supplies available. I watched my Gramma skillfully measure, pin, baste, and use a seam ripper.

My friend donated 10 yards of beautiful silk for our church Christmas project. And thank you to my family for their advice and patience while I commandeered our dining room table for days on end.

Time to Sew

I like to redeem the time. If I am waiting for my daughter to get out of class, I might as well take my sewing project and do some basting. No sewing machine required.

Whose idea was it to sew 40 Christmas stockings for a project at church? Crazy how long it is taking, but I am almost done.

Chop and Nap

It's hard to prepare dinner when you are tired. Ideally I would have it set to go in the crock pot. But that doesn't always happen. So I am learning to chop before I take a nap.

Good-bye Gabe

It's hard to say good-bye to someone so young. Our friends' son packed a lot in his 19 years.

Today's memorial service was a fitting tribute to a funny, compassionate, and smart young man. His life was all about serving Jesus and bringing as many people to Jesus as possible.

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 ESV

Coffee and Breakfast

Coffee and breakfast with the family. Works for us!

Hurry Up

I keep forgetting to record the times we are all together. Better hurry up and get a family portrait for our Christmas letter!

Ready to Sew

Let the Christmas projects commence. Tonight I gathered supplies, located my sewing machine, unearthed the ironing board, and found suitable fabric scissors. I am not the greatest seamstress, but I am willing to sew stockings for a church project.

Visit the Island

We did not bring the island with us. We don't have room in our new house. But I can always go visit the island. In my parents' cabin at the lake. Glad to find a good home for it.

Little by Little, Ten Years Later

Ten years ago it seemed like a good idea. Start a blog they said. So I did. Can't believe I have posted every day since then, with a handful of days off.

There are themes to my posts:  celebrating the people in my life, growing in faith, and getting organized, little by little. Still have a long ways to go, but I see progress.

First post:

Back When She was Little

It's hard to believe she was so little. Our puppy is over 7 months old and is a big girl. But when we met her, she was only 10 weeks old and not very big. Glad we have photos and some videos to remind us of what she was like.

Short but Meaningful

My husband and I try to read from Psalms each morning, Along with the devotional from Tim and Kathy Keller. I appreciate the short but meaningful thoughts to start the day. The included quotes from hymns or writers are good too.

I liked how they tied prayer and scripture together on November 10.

This would be a good book to put on your Christmas list!

Sad News

We are in shock over the sad news. Our friends' son was in a car accident and died yesterday. He was only 19. It wasn't that long ago they lived across the street. The kids all played together.

We take comfort in knowing of his strong faith and personal relationship with Jesus.

We love that family and pray for God's comfort.

Thankful for Veterans, Past and Present

I am thankful my children had a chance to know their great-grandfather. He is one of several veterans represented in our family. We appreciate their service and pray for the safety of those serving today.

Handle It

I love my yellow tea kettle. Only the handle gets too hot on the gas stove in our new home. Today I found a replacement at the Goodwill Outlet. Perfect color and not too hot to handle. Works for me!

Where My Hope is

I'm glad that I am just passing through. This is not my permanent home.

But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. 2 Peter 3:13-14 ESV

Stove Art Love

My husband surprised me with a print to put over the stove. And framed it. It is a painting done by my father-in-law this year. Love it!

Harbor Snack Love

It was our Life Group's turn to provide snacks for both services at Harbor Church. Our little group put together a nice spread. We had homemade rolls with freezer jam, cheese and crackers, an array of cookies and fruit, veggie tray, and sweet bread. Plus gluten-free brownies.
It all came together. Happy to serve!

First Furry Visitor

I was hoping for a feathered friend to be our first visitor. But the squirrel made itself right at home in the bird feeder. Enjoyed the sunflower seeds a little too much. I will have to send my guard dog out.

Back in the Loop

When we moved out four years ago, I didn't think we would return. But now I am glad we are back in the Loop. I can't wait to get all the way unpacked and settled.

Number Called

It's good to arrive early. Before the Social Security office opens. I found a place to park and was only twenty people down the line. I had a chance to read my Bible Study Fellowship lesson before my number was called. Only took a little over an hour.

Walk on By

I can't stop noticing nice, sturdy boxes. But I walk on by. I don't need any more for moving because we are done. Hooray! And I as I empty boxes at home, I can fill them with donates.

Old Music Friends

I unearthed some old friends. Even though the Seeds cds are aimed at children, they are some of my favorite worship music!
