Puppy Bunny Love

We moved back just in time. It was fun to hand out candy to the kids who walked around the neighborhood. The kids were friendly and polite.

Our puppy would have liked to greet each child, but had to settle for watching them come and go.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. John 1:5 ESV

Church Family

It was great to attend church with family today. My mother-in-law met some of our friends who have been praying for the family. Plus my husband's sister and her husband were in town from Portland.

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 ESV

Carpet of Leaves

I am going to miss the leaves when they are gone. We have had a beautiful fall with deep yellows, vibrant oranges, and rich reds.

For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. Romans 1:20 ESV

Window Watchers

Our puppy enjoys the living room window. And watching the coming and going.

And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds." And it was so. Genesis 1:24 ESV

First Sugar

Glad we unpacked most of the kitchen staples. I was happy to loan my neighbor some brown sugar. Good to be in the neighborhood!

The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these." Mark 12:31 ESV

Former Pumpkin Patch Days

I miss that little girl. But love the young woman she has become!

How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. Psalm 36:7 ESV

Box by Box

In some ways this has been the worst move ever. We were not organized and didn't get a crew to help us.

But it is also probably the best move ever. We are finally going to make the hard decisions and deal with the excess of stuff. It will take a little time.  But we can do it. Box by box.

Pictured: At least we are not hauling stuff up or down three flights of stairs, like my daughter's last move!

Today is the Day

We started celebrating yesterday. But today is the day my husband made his first appearance. Fifty-six years ago. I am blessed to share this journey with him! Happy Birthday!

Pictured: My son captured this moment on a walk yesterday.

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands! Psalm 90:17 ESV

Happy Early Birthday

I would call today a win. We celebrated my husband's birthday a day early. With all four children, two significant others, and my mother-in-law. The baked potato bar and ice cream sundae bar were hits. The football game was interesting, even if the result was disappointing for the fans.

Happy early birthday to my husband!

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34-35 ESV

Back in the Loop

We are starting to meet the neighbors. And reconnect with the neighbors we knew before. We built our home in the loop with seven other families. Four of those families are still here. Eighteen years later.

Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. Psalm 127:1 ESV

Minimize Minimize

I unpacked some books just in time. I need a major reset in my home organization. I am not ready to become a minimalist. But I can minimize the amount of stuff we bring into our new home. And organize the rest. Little by little.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 ESV

Neighborhood Watch

There is more coming and going in our new home. Our puppy likes to look out the window and watch.

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. Psalm 121:8 ESV

Make the Bed

I'm happy to have the mattresses off the floor. We decided to forego the headboard and keep it simple.

Our puppy approves, but she does not have free range in our bedroom.

Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. Psalm 121:4 ESV

Fresh Start

Now we get to figure out where things go. As we set up in our new-to-us home. It's like a fresh start.

Storm Wait

What do you do when you are waiting for the storm? Might as well play cards as long as you have electricity. With a lantern ready if needed.

And if the storm isn't as bad as expected, praise the Lord!

Pictured: Playing our new favorite card game, Chicago.

And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey him?" Matthew 8:26-27 ESV

Ready for the Storm

Good thing I have a handyman on retainer. He cleaned out the gutters and nailed a few loose fence boards. In preparation for the big wind and rain storm.

And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. Matthew 7:25 ESV

Beat the Storm

We planned to move this weekend. Right smack during the winter storm. So my husband took a day off in the middle of the week. We threw everything in the truck and moved across town. With the help of our kids. Just in time to beat the storm.

Let me dwell in your tent forever! Let me take refuge under the shelter of your wings! Selah. Psalm 61:4 ESV

October Sky

I'm glad we were able to get our internet back online. After a few calls. Hopefully the power will stay on. But at least we are not trying to move in this wind and rain!

First Sleepover

Still no internet and sketchy cell phone coverage in our new home. We had  our first sleepover tonight! My mother- in- law joined us for storm watch. So far we've had lots of rain but no wind yet.

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 ESV

Old and New

Is it the new home or the old home? Both. We are returning to our old former home. But we've been gone four years so it will be the "new" home. Very confusing. How about the Loop Home (because of the street name)?

No More Paintings

I miss the works in progress at my in-laws. No more new paintings from my father-in-law. It is still hard to believe he is gone.

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6 ESV

40 Days of Community Launch

Our church is starting a six-week small group study called 40 Days of Community. There are groups starting all over the Olympia area, Chehalis, Yelm, and one in Shelton. It's a great time to join a group, make some deeper connections, and serve the community together.

First Load of Many

It's hard to believe we are really moving. But we are. Our tenants are completely moved out. We took the first load of packed boxes over today.

Good Sharing

When my brother-in-law and his puppy are in town, we like to let the dogs play. And run around and around and around.

Good Day at the Park

We never know how things will go at the dog park. Who will show up? Will everyone get along? How muddy will our white puppy get?

Today we had fun throwing a Frisbee for our puppy to fetch until her Great Dane friend showed up. Works for all of us.

Pictured: Puppy friends in step.

Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend, and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away. Proverbs 27:10 ESV

Collaborative Dinner Love

Dinners have been a collaborative effort. My brother-in-law is staying with my mother-in-law so we have eaten dinners together. With contributions from my sister-in-law, who prepared food and sent it up. I have added side dishes. And today my son picked apples and cooked applesauce. Perfect for my applesauce cake. Works for us.

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it. Proverbs 15:17 ESV

Hi, Mom!

I never know what I will find at the Goodwill Outlet. Or who. Today I saw a familiar face. "Hi, Mom!" And I stopped by the car to say hi to my patient dad.

Lunch with Mom

Our youngest is off to a great start. Has two weeks of community college behind her and is settling in to the routine. Sometimes we treat ourselves to lunch (split a chicken bowl). Works for us!

Blessed is the one who finds wisdom, and the one who gets understanding, Proverbs 3:13 ESV

Two Studies at Once

I wasn't sure how it would work to do two studies at once. No worries. I do the First5 study early in the morning. Then do Bible Study Fellowship homework later in the car after I take my daughter to school. It's funny how often the book of Deuteronomy and the book of John overlap. Or show up in the Sunday sermons.

For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. John 1:16-17 ESV

Mount Ellinor Hike

It was a challenging hike but worth it. That's the report from my husband and son after they hiked Mount Ellinor yesterday. The weather was just right, with some fog but it cleared up. Glad they could make a memory together.

Pictured: My husband and son took some beautiful photos as they ascended almost 6000 feet.

A Song of Ascents. I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth. Psalm 121:1-2 ESV
