Easy Math

It's easy to remember my sister's wedding on that beautiful summer day. It was the year 2000. So today we celebrate their sixteenth anniversary! I like easy math.

Happy Anniversary to my sister and her husband! We love you and your family!

Pictured: My sister and husband, with their five girls, from 13 years to almost 1 year-old.

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. Psalm 5:11 ESV

Wait for it

I almost purchased an ottoman at the thrift store. But it wasn't very comfortable for sitting. I know that if I am patient, I can find just the right item for the right price. Like today. Found a beautiful leather ottoman that matches the chair from my
in-laws. And doubles as extra seating. (Only $6.99 plus tax).

Jell-o Love

I was inspired by my older daughter's friend's thoughtfulness. The friend made individual servings of Jell-o after my daughter had her wisdom teeth out. So I made some Jell-o for my friend who had major surgery and can't eat much yet.

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. Hebrews 13:16 ESV

Stewardship #1: Robbing God

Some pastors won't touch it. Others harp on it. Yes, money is a sensitive topic. Pastor Seth Winterhalter's sermon on tithing was the clearest I have ever heard on the subject. It's not really about money. It's about your heart and trusting God. It takes true faith to give firstfruits.

You can listen online and learn what the Old Testament and New Testament have to say about tithes. If you've ever wondered what was wrong with Cain's offering, check out the part about Cain and Abel.

Stay tuned for more in the new stewardship series.

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Matthew 6:21 ESV

Dahlia Love

My friend wasn't sure what color dahlia she planted. So I took a photo when it bloomed. While I was house-sitting.

The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever. Isaiah 40:8 ESV

Morning Until Night

I have a fresh appreciation for my mom friends. With little ones. It is a lot of work to care for young ones. From morning until night. And then start over. I am learning a lot from having a puppy!

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 ESV

Daisy Daisy Love

We've had fun family times with the new puppy. Including some great photo ops.

Chambers Last Year

One year ago, my husband had a memorable Father's Day. Our younger son bought tickets for the 2015 U.S. Open golf tournament.

I would like to visit Chambers Creek Regional Park and explore the scenic park this summer.

My son, if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad. Proverbs 23:15 ESV

Stocked Up

I don't always get across town to Winco. But when I do, I stock up! I love their bulk food section. I forgot to write the code for the steel cut oats. It made me laugh when the checker asked if I had bird seed.

She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. Proverbs 31:14 ESV

Amazing Light Show

My husband and I were treated to an amazing light show on the way home from Olympia last night. First a brilliant rainbow. Then a glorious sunset. When we got home we compared cell phone pics with our kids, who saw it here. And then many friends posted on Facebook.

Be exalted, O God, above the heavens! Let your glory be over all the earth! Psalm 108:5

Together on Father's Day

I love how my husband is such a great father to our children. And it blesses me to see them honor him on Father's Day.

The fear of the LORD is instruction in wisdom, and humility comes before honor. Proverbs 15:33 ESV

Father's Day 2016

I don't understand God's grace. Why have I been blessed with a godly father, husband, and father-in-law? Plus my late grandfathers and great-grandfathers, who were strong men of God? Grace is not deserved and certainly not understood. But I am thankful!

Happy Father's Day, with gratitude to my Heavenly Father for His good gifts!

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 ESV

Hello Yesterdays

I'm glad we didn't have plans for the last day of school.  I'm not sure how a neighborhood party would have worked in the rain. Those days of planning block parties seem like forever ago.

I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old. Psalm 77:11 ESV

From The Blazing Center

If I had a twitter account, I would tweet this line from Stephen Altrogge's website, The Blazing Center:

The solution to being fundamentally broken is not to call the brokenness good.

The bad news: I am who I am.
The good news: God is helping me be who I'm called to be.

And he said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. Luke 9:23 ESV

Happy Birthday, Gramma!

It's another birthday without my Grampa at her side. But my Gramma is strong and brave.

Happy 94th birthday, Gramma! I love you!

She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all." Proverbs 31:27-29 ESV

Bonding With Us

I think she is bonding with us. The puppy is happy when someone comes home or lets her out of the crate in the morning. She is learning to follow some simple commands too. Good girl, Daisy.

Pictured: My daughter took this photo of the puppy waiting for me to get back from checking the mail.

Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Ecclesiastes 7:8 ESV

Grace Be With You #31

We came to the end of a series, thirty-one sermons through the book of Colossians. Even the last couple verses have practical lessons for us. I love how Pastor Seth Winterhalter explains context and makes it real. As Christians, we need to be known by what we are for. Not what we are against.

You can listen online:

And say to Archippus, "See that you fulfill the ministry that you have received in the Lord." I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my chains. Grace be with you. Colossians 4:17-18 ESV

My friend and I are doing the same things, all day long. Her German shepherd puppy is a little younger than our labradoodle mix. We are redirecting, redirecting, redirecting. Don't chew that; chew this. But the training will be worth it in the end.

Pictured: The sofa cover is not for chewing, but is okay as a hiding place.

Meet the (Dog) Parents

I didn't actually meet the parents. I just saw photos and heard about Daisy's parents. Her mom is a labradoodle and her dad is a Maremma/Anatolian mix. Yes, our puppy will probably be a big girl. But she has the perfect blend of traits for our family.

And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds." And it was so. Genesis 1:24 ESV

Puppy Nap

Our older daughter met the new puppy today. They are so sweet when they are sleeping. And most of the rest of the time. We are all getting used to each other and building some routines.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. Galatians 6:9 ESV

Right Time

I like it when friends borrow our vehicles. Or get rides. And set the clocks. To the right time. Very helpful!

But we will bless the LORD from this time forth and forevermore. Praise the LORD! Psalm 115:18 ESV

Fellow Doodlers

I read that it is good to expose young puppies to lots of new experiences and people. In a positive way of course. So today we made a new dog friend. My cousin's goldendoodle was very gentle with our labradoodle puppy and put up with sharing her toys.

With thanks to my son, the photographer.

Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend, and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away. Proverbs 27:10 ESV

Goodbye Tenth Grade

It seems like forever ago that I dropped our daughter off for classes in Olympia. After two years, it's time to say goodbye to taking classes at the Olympia Regional Learning Academy. It's been a great educational experience. Our daughter is ready for Running Start classes at the community college in the fall. Meanwhile, hello, summer!

Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 ESV

Vetted by the Vet

We are off to a healthy start. Measured twelve pounds at ten weeks. Everything checks out fine with the vet. Just need to continue the immunization schedule so she can be around other dogs. Everyone loved our sweet little puppy and admired her calm disposition.

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! Psalm 107:1 ESV

Driving to Get Miss Daisy

Welcome to the family, Daisy! She is a ten-week-old labradoodle and Anatolian mix. We originally hoped to find a golden retriever puppy, but a friend of a friend had this litter available. She seems perfect for our family. We drove all the way to Spokane, Washington to pick her up. That's six hours one way. So we made a road trip out of it.

The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. Genesis 2:20 ESV

Miss Breakfasts

I miss the days of family breakfasts. That was fun.  One of these days, we will do it again!

Redeem the Mess

Sometimes I make messes. Like the water that went cascading over the sink, into the knife drawer, and on the floor. Might as well empty the drawer and clean it. Dry it in the sun for a while. Redeem the mess. I can do that.

Years Later

Moms, write dates on all your notes. At least the year. I found this thank-you note from my older daughter tucked away. Warms my heart. All over again. However many years later.

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, Ephesians 1:16 ESV

Pints and Quarts Date

We had time before our daughter was ready to be picked up. Might as well redeem our waiting time with an impromptu date night. Tried Pints and Quarts at the Olympia Mall. My husband got to watch a basketball playoff game. And the fish and beef tacos were delicious.
