Island Time

I'm glad we made it to the island before closing. Helps to be going against ferry traffic on the way to the Roasting Studio on Bainbridge Island. I had time for a cup of coffee before I dropped off my youngest with her sister last week.

Passing Through

Our older daughter was just passing through town. To drop off her little sister after a concert last night. But she stopped long enough to see her dad on his lunch break. And home for a cup of tea. Before hitting the road.

Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14 ESV

Brothers in Pajamas

Where did those fun-loving brothers go? They grew up. Still fun-loving, just not swapping pj's much these days.

Start Over

I am prepared to start over. Even though I've been through Running Start three times as a parent.

Times have changed. Even the college has been remodeled and is all new. I'm excited for our youngest to start at South Puget Sound Community College in the fall as a junior in high school.

Welcome to the Club

My sister is now part of the Fifty Club. Let the first senior discounts begin! Happy Birthday to my good friend and sister!

Love you!

Leftover Confusion

I was looking for oatmeal. And found leftover rice and chicken instead. So I have a new system with masking tape and a Sharpie. Dates are helpful too.

Prepare for Summer

I'm already going through withdrawal. There are only three more weeks of Bible Study Fellowship and the study of Revelation. I will miss the ladies in my discussion group, the homework, and the lectures! I need a plan for what to do over summer break. Before studying the book of John in the fall.

Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen. "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty." Revelation 1:7-8 ESV

Walk Through the Backyard

We interrupt this walk through the backyard. Admiring the apple blossoms. To stop and take a photo of the two of us.

Sky Over the Lake

My husband received an extra blessing. For staying after work to mow the lawns for my parents and grandma. He saw a beautiful dusk sky over the lake.

Tortilla Love

She makes it look easy. But she has years of experience. Plus she truly cooks with love. She worked hard to prepare a meal for the student fellowship at Evergreen State College. Homemade tortillas with chili and rice. And her homemade salsa. I want to learn how to make tortillas like that!

All God's People at Evergreen

I'm glad we only brought the salad. The students started on the main course while we tried to find our way across the Evergreen State College campus. It was our life group's first time volunteering to bring food to the All God's People multi-ethnic fellowship meeting.

We stayed and ate with the students from Ecuador, Venezuela, Columbia, the Middle East, and more. They were friendly and fun to talk to. Glad we could be part of it! And next time we will drive directly to parking lot B and walk to the Campus Activities Building.

Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace, which was given me by the working of his power. To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things, Ephesians 3:7-9 ESV

Step Away

One lonely X. Sounds like lyrics to a country song. But it describes what was on my calendar last week. I hope to mark at least five days a week that I complete my exercise routine.

I really like Teresa Tapp's approach to fitness. The walking video works for me, as an uncoordinated fitness-challenged person.

Don't be a Scrooge

We watched cartoons in church. Not really. Just a clip from a classic cartoon. As Christians, we don't want to be a scrooge.

Instead of trying to hoard earthly riches, we need to "Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly." What is the Word of Christ? Not just the Bible. It is the gospel message, including the three pillars of Christ's life, death, and resurrection.

You can listen to sermon here:

Started with Strawberry Shortcake

It started with strawberry shortcake. As we planned a going-away event for a mutual friend. But that first date in April, thirty-one years ago, led to more. Engaged in July. Married in December, 1985.

No More Chickens

And just like that, we're done. No more chickens in the backyard. Or fresh eggs. There was an unfortunate incident with the neighbor dog(s). Not sure how it happened, but we will not rush to replace the chickens.

Purple Patch

I thought my husband missed a spot. By the tree in our backyard. But he deliberately didn't mow a patch. So the purple flowers could spring up.

But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Matthew 6:30 ESV

Wait Until Dark

Our chickens can run fast. Through the sticker bushes in their fenced yard. We caught one and clipped her wing successfully. Then waited until dark and got the other two. Now they can't fly over the fence. And face the dogs.

Straight From Work

I forgot my husband's request to bring his reading glasses and Bible. Since he was coming to Life Group straight from work. No worries. Our friend Norm got him set up with a Bible. And lighted magnifying glass.

Hope of More

One of the things I love about spring is the hope of more to come. The apple blossoms mean there will be fruit. And apple crisps and pies. Maybe more apple rose tarts!

But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;  they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:21-23 ESV

Sculpture Love

I thought of my younger son when I saw this sculpture in the Seattle Art Museum last week. Reminds me of some of his school projects. Including our dumpster diving adventures. (For the record, we did ask permission from the business owners.) He made some cool stuff.

I found a link to my son's blog with a picture of his project:

Pretty in Pink

In honor of National Sibling Day, I will bring back this old photo of our family.

It's fun to spend time with my siblings. My sister and I were just talking about our fond memories of the chocolate Easter eggs we got in Hong Kong.

Pictured: This was taken in Taipei, Taiwan about 1977 I think. I was smiling, but I was not happy about having our picture taken in public, all pretty in pink. Bless Mom for all her sewing on our behalf. That we might not have appreciated at the time.

Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 ESV

Back Down the Road

I'm glad the homey restaurant down the road is open again. We've missed having meals, coffee, and dessert. Watching sports. Playing games. With my in-laws.

Love Her Dearly

I don't always get to celebrate with my mom on her birthday. But today I did, along with one of my sisters. All the way from California. We all love her dearly! More every year.

Happy birthday, Mom!

First Thursday at SAM

It's the first Thursday of the month. Do you know what that means?  You can visit the Seattle Art Museum for free today. The special exhibits are half-price, but our teenage daughter would have been free. We ran out of time and steam so we didn't do that. We will be back!

We took our car on the Bremerton to Seattle ferry, but the museum is within walking distance of the ferry terminal.

Bye Bye Bonsai

All the plants survived their stay with us. I'm not sure how many years we have cared for my father-in-law's bonsai while they are gone. I'm always a little sad when it returns to their home. But there's always next year! And we can visit my in-laws, and bonsai, down the road, any time.

The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:12 ESV

Welcome Home Basket

My daughter and I had fun assembling a welcome home basket. Plus flowers. And letting ourselves in my in-laws' home before they returned. Glad to have the snow birds back from California!

Girls' Night at the Movies

I'm not crazy about being out past midnight. But the drive-in movie theater is just minutes down the road. Plus it's spring break week. So my daughter and I made it a girls' night out. Zootopia and the new Star Wars movie. We had fun and made some memories.  Works for us!

Seek and Set

There are two chances to hear the sermon on Sundays now. With services at 9 and 11 AM. Still going strong in Colossians with the 22nd in the series. It's available online too.

I was challenged to not just put sin to death. We need to put waste and foolishness to death too.

First on the Scene

Spring has sprung. First on the scene are the cherry blossoms. Then come the apple and pear. I marvel at the beauty every year.

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, Matthew 6:27-28 ESV

Safe Arrival, One Year Ago

I remember how there was no sign of jet lag. At first. My husband was excited to be back and share stories of his trip to Africa. He had a great time and is still in contact with the friends he made.
