Apple Rose Tart Love

My husband surprised me by taking on an ambitious baking project last weekend. He saw apple rose tarts with cream cheese on Facebook and watched the video. We had pie crust in the fridge so he used that instead of puff pastry. They turned out great!

He says he recommends watching the video twice for tips on how to assemble them. And next time he'll try puff pastry.

Wait it Out

I was not familiar with that side of the hospital. I've been just about everywhere besides the emergency room. But my friend was there sitting out a migraine. I'm glad I could sit with her daughter and read books. And stay with my friend while her husband and daughter went home. Good thing I got my nap today and was able to do that.

But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; may those who love your salvation say continually, "Great is the LORD!" As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God! Psalm 40:16-17 ESV

Old Friend Day

I feel like I was reunited with an old friend. Found Bell's Seasoning at my bargain grocery store today. Love it for split pea soup, chicken soup, meat loaf, and I'm sure I can figure out other uses.

Plus I met up with my friend of almost twenty-five years for coffee.

Good to the Last Stalk

I love creating meals out of what we have. Like the last of the veggie tray. Made a delicious stir fry with ground turkey. Just added red pepper and teriyaki sauce. Works for us.

Fear and Great Joy

Good Friday revealed our need for salvation. And Easter reveals the path for hope.

You can listen to today's sermon on Fear and Joy from Pastor Seth Winterhalter.

But the angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and behold, he is going before you to Galilee; there you will see him. See, I have told you." So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Matthew 28:5-8 ESV

Egg Hunts Past

It seems like ages ago we went around to Easter egg hunts in the area. Hoped for pauses in the rain. Coached our daughter to grab and go. From behind the rope line. One year a church had coins in the eggs. I'm not sure who was more excited about that.

And he said to them, "Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has risen; he is not here. See the place where they laid him. Mark 16:6 ESV

Missing Grampa Today

Today would have been my Grampa's 95th birthday. We talked about some happy memories and had a nice lunch at my uncle's home.

Spring Arrived

I saw a few buds the other day. Next time I looked, there were flowers all over the bush by our house. I love watching the seasons change.

Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Luke 12:27 ESV

Early Easter Dinner

Our younger son and girlfriend were not able to come in time for my uncle's memorial service. But made it to our house afterward. Might as well have an early Easter dinner with all four kids, plus one. Works for us!

Honoring My Great-Uncle

I'm glad I could sit with my Gramma. It was a meaningful service honoring my great-uncle's life and the God he served. So many great stories of a man who "marched to his own band."

My Uncle Roy poured his life into family, students, athletes, musicians, Young Life ministry, and much more. We will all miss him.

All Drove Away

I'm glad it was just a little bump. No one got hurt. The driver behind me accidentally drove into the back of our car at a red light. No damage and we all drove away after inspecting his truck and my sedan bumper. So thankful all is well!

African Palm Sunday

My husband will never forget Palm Sunday in 2015. It was the first service of a church plant and installation of a new pastor in Mozambique. On top of a hill, in a clearing near some villages. No building. Just some wooden poles and a tarp.

So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!" John 12:13 ESV

Delivered Dinner Love

I love how our church life group cares for each other. Prays. And does acts of kindness. Like the delicious dinner delivered to us yesterday.

Full of Life

We have so many cute pictures of our youngest. She was quiet in public but full of life at home. With three older siblings doting on her.

Take Turns Driving

My husband graciously offered to drive this morning. He took my parents to their first appointment. Then delivered them to the second appointment. He drove home and gave me their car. So I could meet them and do the afternoon driving and errands. My mom's vision is healing well, and she will probably be able to drive soon.

Memories of This Day

Has it been one year ago that he left for the trip of a lifetime? So glad my husband could go to Malawi and Mozambique last year. And came back safely two and a half weeks later!

On this day, seventeen years ago, my lovely niece made her appearance. Happy Birthday M!

Disqualified

How many times do people bring up judging? Something along the lines of, "I thought Christians are not supposed to judge..." What does the Bible really say about judging? Pastor Seth Winterhalter made it clearer in the 21st sermon in the Colossians series.

Plus he explained the difference between duty and delight. We turn away from sin by finding true delight in God. It's time to stop listening to the voice of condemnation and start listening to the voice of conviction.

Let no one disqualify you, insisting on asceticism and worship of angels, going on in detail about visions, puffed up without reason by his sensuous mind, and not holding fast to the Head, from whom the whole body, nourished and knit together through its joints and ligaments, grows with a growth that is from God. Colossians 2:18-19 ESV

Brilliant Double Rainbow

I was thankful all day. Thinking about how I didn't have to to drive myself to Olympia tonight. Plus our daughter came along to hang out with her dad. And as a bonus, we followed a brilliant double rainbow much of the way.

Time to Hunker Down

Might as well hunker down. Before the wind picks up. Glad we made it to church in Olympia and back.

Bronze Bird Books Love

If I need books, especially kids' books, I know where to go. My good friend sells books online or at sales and events. I went to his sale today and found a few treasures. I could give them away. But I will keep them to share with little friends who stop by.

Beautiful and Calm

I'm glad we missed the storm. And the truck/school bus accident on highway 3. By the time we drove out to my parents' home, the rain had stopped.

Trombone in Heaven

If there are trombones in heaven, I know someone who can play one. After he is reunited with family members who have gone on before. My Great Uncle Roy died today, after suffering a major stroke. We will miss him!

Cancelled Debt

Our pastor is good at teaching and preaching. Sunday's sermon had both. I don't mind if it takes a while to get through the book of Colossians.

With All Five

I wasn't sure what the woman in the elevator was going to say. She counted my sister's girls--all five of them. Then exclaimed, "I'm jealous! All I have is boys."

Luther and Katharina

I don't read much fiction these days. Because once I start, I read until I am finished. I forgot how much I enjoy historical fiction. I recently finished Luther and Katharina: A Novel of Love and Rebellion by  Jody Hedlund. It gave me a much better understanding of what Martin Luther fought for.

Almost Overlapped

My parents' appointments almost overlapped. I thought I was going to drop off my mom, take my dad to his appointment, and go back to get my mom, and then go to my dad. But my mom's eye appointment was done just in time.

My replacement driver (my nephew) is in town for a week so I have a break. And my mom will probably be driving soon.

The Replacement

My husband gave away his favorite Bible in Africa. But the replacement study Bible from his dad might be even better. It came in a zippered case. Perfect for carrying pen, paper, and reading glasses.

Cookies Made with Love

What's a great treat while you are waiting in the car? Cookies made with love. My dad enjoyed cookies made by his granddaughter(s). Hand-delivered by my husband who stopped by my sister's house while traveling through Oregon the other day.

Stop for Coffee

We made it through rain and wind. With a few sun breaks. And one stop for coffee.

Another successful trip to Olympia/Lacey and back for blood work, an appointment, and a few errands.
