Football Fan

I will be sad when the season is over. Not that I am a big football fan. But I enjoy my mother-in-law's hospitality. It's been fun sharing meals, making guesses about the scores, and watching their cable. Thanks, Linda! And go Hawks!

Securing Today and Tomorrow

Today was the last sermon in the Colossians series. Before the Advent series begins. Pastor Seth Winterhalter shared a timely message for our world full of fears and anxieties. I know it was perfect for me. Jesus secures two things: peace for today and hope for tomorrow. We all need that.

Second Thanksgiving

Not everyone could be in town for Thanksgiving. So we planned a second meal for Saturday. Turkey and everything.

When we found out my sister and family were still in town, we added another table and scrounged all the chairs we could find. With plenty of food for 18, if you count the baby.

Never Alone

This was the first Thanksgiving without my Grampa. But my Gramma was never alone. She especially enjoyed all the little ones, including her brand-new great-granddaughter. My aunt and uncle's home was filled with love. And
good food.

I am especially thankful for a tiny little bundle. I met my new niece today. My sister's youngest daughter is a little doll. Just perfect. With four doting big sisters. My Gramma (Great Gramma) enjoyed meeting her too.

Spice Confusion

Now which one was parsley and which one Italian seasoning? Those little twisty ties at the grocery store don't always stay put. No worries. I can use a Sharpie and some plastic clips. Works until I can put my bulk spices in jars.

Permission to Stay In

I don't miss, skip, or stay home. I love studying God's Word at Bible Study Fellowship every week! But tonight seemed like a good night to stay in. It's been a busy weekend, with lots of driving. Early mornings. And now rain with wind on the way.

Not One More Thing. (Again)

How do you find the balance between multi-tasking--using time and resources well--and system overload? Stop squeezing in “one more thing.” If I have a few minutes to spare and try to fit in one more errand, inevitably I will be late. When waiting to pick up children from school or practice I can listen to Christian radio, read the newspaper or a book if I brought one, take time to plan or pray, or even Sudoku a while.

Note: This was my first blog post, posted November 14, 2006. Still trying to find that balance in life. But haven't done a Sudoku puzzle in a while.

Thankful for Generations of Heroes

I am thankful for the generations of men and women who have served our country. Including my late grandfather and my cousins who have been deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. I see the sacrifices of  friends' spouses left behind. And continually pray for safety.

All About School Projects

I told the two young women I am "all about school projects." And yes, I could answer some questions and be videotaped. Outside the grocery store.

The questions were related to Thanksgiving, along the lines of favorite foods, traditions, and what I am thankful for. I didn't expect to get emotional. But the question of who I wish I could thank got me to thinking my beloved grandpa, who passed away earlier this year.

Friend in Town

Our church has a lot of people come and go. Mostly because of the strong military representation. Others move for school. Like a dear friend from our community group. But we are always happy when she is in town and we can catch up!

Back in Time

We are going back in time. Watching movies on VHS. Tapes are cheap at our local thrift stores. Either three, four, or ten for a dollar. Of course, the quality is not as good as DVD or Blu-ray. But it works for us.
