Picture Day

How hard is it to keep up with one child? Taking two classes at the home school partnership. Let's just say, a mom I know forgot to tell her daughter it was picture day.

Way to Repurpose

I wasn't sure who was going to receive the hardback children's book. It was only 79 cents, plus a sale of 50% off everything in the thrift store. But wait, two of the pages are ripped out! My youngest said she could use the art in the book. Cut it up and made a card for her brother's birthday. What a great way to repurpose!

Down to Three

I hoped our chicken would find her way home safely. After she got separated from the flock. But I found a trail of feathers and evidence that she met an untimely death. At least this one never got named. Now we are down to three chickens. No more unsupervised outings for the girls.

The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. Genesis 2:20 ESV

Born in Taiwan

Twenty-six years ago my husband and I were in a Chinese hospital. With my mom and our boss from the missionary boarding school waiting patiently in the hall. For our second child to be born. All 3000 grams of him. (That's about 6 pounds 9 1/2 ounces.) He has been a blessing ever since. With never a dull moment.

Happy Day of Your Birth, Son!

Sky Above

There is so much beauty around us. Like the leaves changing colors. I can't always stop to take a picture. But I caught this sunset before getting in my car this week.

To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. Psalm 19:1 ESV

Notes are Helpful

We are learning how to operate as a family of four. Sometimes notes are helpful.

Handyman Can

I left a man up on the roof. And went to the hardware store for matching shingles. I'm glad my husband doesn't mind heights and is good at fixing things.

Tailgate Lunch

Our daughter brought lunch to share. And we had a tailgate party during my husband's lunch break. Works for us!

Six in One Place

We should get a new family picture. Now that we all live in one state. But maybe not pile on the couch.

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14 ESV

Find My Rhythm

I need to find my new weekly rhythm. With classes for my youngest during the week. Bible Study Fellowship on Monday night. Homework during the week. And don't forget the naps! Working on it.

Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Matthew 11:29 ESV

Jesus in all of Life

We had a front row seat for today's sermon. Literally. Preach it, Pastor Seth!

I am excited for this new series in Colossians. Today was the second in the series.

Blessing Basket Love

I love finding lightweight treasures at the Outlet. The Goodwill Outlet, where the price is by the pound. My latest find is a beautiful Blessing Basket. I have already filled it and emptied it with things to share with my in-laws and tomatoes from my mom.

Tomato Love

I think of my mom almost every time I shop for tomatoes. I have vivid memories of watching her select firm tomatoes in the open markets in Hong Kong and Taiwan. And then getting them weighed with a balance. Now I can shop from her garden bounty!

Thanks, Mom!

She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. Proverbs 31:16-17 ESV

Bagel Days Gone By

We used to eat bagels regularly. Not so much anymore. Maybe I should try baking some.

Not a Morning Person

After six years of attending Wednesday morning Bible Study Fellowship, I moved to the Monday night class. It works better for my schedule. I miss the people and familiar location, but I saw some old friends on Monday night. And my mom's cousin.

I am excited to be learning about the book of Revelation this year!

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near. Revelation 1:3 ESV

Birthday Bowl

Our oldest was very gracious when his little sister was born on his 13th birthday.

Fun to celebrate our "bookends" with bowling today. Happy 28th and 15th birthdays! Love you both!

Pictured: Birthday bowling, complete with a strike for our youngest and several strikes for our oldest. And untold gutter balls for yours truly.

Drive Happy

I am happy to be driving my new car around. The air conditioning works great. And my favorite water bottle fits perfectly.

The LORD is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to him. Psalm 28:7 ESV

Life Group Relaunch

Take down the rows of chairs. Bring in the round tables. Lay out the food and have a potluck. Time to kick off the fall term of Life Groups at Harbor Church Olympia!

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven. Of this you have heard before in the word of the truth, the gospel, Colossians 1:3-5 ESV

Good to Go!

I don't like anything about the car buying process. We have been burned a few times. But this week's craigslist transaction went smoothly. We found an older car with a great reputation and low miles: 2000 Honda Civic. Scraped up the cash and we are good to go!

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 ESV

We Still Remember

My youngest has no memory of what happened, days before she turned one-year-old. But our older three remember how everything stopped. We gathered around the television and watched the news. For days. It's still hard to believe and understand.

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26 ESV

Twice is Enough

I hope I don't need to call for a tow truck again any time soon. Twice in two weeks is plenty. But I'm thankful we added towing to our car insurance this year. And both incidents were not too scary. Could have been worse!

Ready for Ten

I'm not sure where the time has gone. Today is the first day of 10th grade for our youngest. She is taking a couple classes at the Olympia Regional Learning Academy and homeschooling for the rest. I don't mind driving her to Olympia three days a week.

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. Psalm 127:4 ESV

Pacemaker Update

My sisters would be at the hospital checking on Dad if they could. I'm glad I can represent.

Today's surgery to put in the pacemaker went well. He will stay overnight and likely go home tomorrow.

He was alert, cracking jokes, and eating salad with Mom's homegrown cherry tomatoes tossed in. And enjoying the cable news programs.

Pictured: My dad is a little sore from the surgery but doing well!

Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul. 3 John 1:2 ESV

Switching to Monday Night BSF

After six years of faithfully attending Wednesday mornings, I am switching to Monday night Bible Study Fellowship. It will work better with my daughter's schedule. Anyone from Shelton want to ride to Olympia with me? Or share rides?

If you are not signed up for BSF, you will need to do that. Here is a link for this class.

Starts at 6:30 pm on Monday, September 14. Revelation, here we go!

To the Rescue

I don't know when I've been happier to see my husband. And I don't usually cry when he shows up. I was stranded on the side of the highway this morning. With no cell service. Finally one little text went through and reached my older daughter. She called my husband and he came to my rescue.

So much to be thankful for today. Our car has been all over Oregon and Washington in the last month. Including Seattle and Bainbridge Island yesterday. I'm not sure what we will do about our car and if it is repairable after 250,000 plus miles. But I do know that God is taking care of us and will continue to do so.

Pictured: Beautiful sight this morning. Then my husband was able to drive our car to a side road. And give me a ride home.

Caravan of Movers

That was a moving experience. Our whole family came together to help our daughter move from Seattle to Bainbridge Island. Our son got a ride from Bellingham to help for the day. Four of us came from Shelton in two vehicles.

Floored

It's out with the old. In with the new. Former renters out. New renters on their way. And after 17 years of carpet, there is now a beautiful hardwood floor in one of the bedrooms. (In addition to another bedroom, the living room and dining room.)

Thanks to my husband's hard work installing it this week. With the help of a friend who finished out the room and trim today.

Heights and Depths

My son will go to great lengths to capture a photo, video, or time-lapse. He is skilled with tripods and other stabilizing hacks. Recently he waded out in the Metolious River to record the family on the bridge.

Lovely Yellow

You know what sparks joy? A lovely yellow mug for my morning tea. Thanks to my mother-in-law.

The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:9-10 ESV

Coming and Going

There is so much coming and going. Current renters moved out. New renters moving in. With projects in the meantime. People we know are packing and moving. Good thing it's a little cooler and I can fire up the crock pot.

Pictured: It wasn't that long ago that we had to rent a moving van.

The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore. Psalm 121:8 ESV
