Muffin Chicken Love

At least the "ladies" liked my muffins. My recipe merge experiment with leftover oatmeal and ripe bananas was a dud. The flavor was tolerable but the texture was terrible. Glad it wasn't a total waste of ingredients.

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." Genesis 1:26 ESV

Garden Girl

My daughter cleared a walking path in my parents' garden. And tied up the tomato plants. My mom does a great job growing tomatoes from seed. I will be glad to help with the harvest!

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23 ESV

God Creates Man

Today's sermon was aimed squarely at men. All about how God created man and man's role and purpose. It's good to go back to basics. I'm looking forward to next week and hearing about women!

The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it. Genesis 2:15 ESV

Baby Shower Love

I haven't lost my touch. Even though I don't get much practice. I was one of the top five to blow up a balloon and diaper it so it would stay on. But my drawing of a baby's face on a plate held on my head didn't win. My family will be amazed to know I did not win the purse scavenger hunt. It was a fun baby shower for my friend!

Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Psalm 127:3 ESV

Coffee Date Appreciation

A friend sent some encouragement by email. A coffee card to redeem! My daughter and I enjoyed our coffee date yesterday. Works for us!

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV

Mom's Crazy Day

My mom's hernia surgery went well but anesthesia is her kryptonite. After she got home she felt sick and fell. Thankfully, just then my uncle stopped by with their mail. He and my cousin drove my parents to the ER. She needed super glue on her chin and a cast on her hand for a broken finger. No broken ribs or damage to her new dental crown.

After a rough night, she is up and around. Things could have been so much worse.

Pictured: My mom was in good spirits and thankful for God's protection. Even after a crazy day.

This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 ESV

Summer Kick-Off

Our Life Group Bible Study planned three events for the summer. First up, a salad supper at our home last night. It was great to have old and new friends join us.

With special thanks to my youngest, who worked all day to get the house and food ready while I was gone with my parents.

And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, Acts 2:46 ESV

Another Surgery Under Her Belt

I am thankful my mom's hernia surgery went well today. Now for the hard part. She has to recover from being under anesthesia and take it easy for six weeks.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:16 ESV

US Open 2015 Love

It was a father-son dream. Attend the 2015 US Open together. On Father's Day, no less. Thanks to my son for blessing his dad yesterday!

The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him. Proverbs 23:24 ESV

Always My Hero

Not everyone can look back on a happy childhood. But I was blessed to have godly parents who loved each other and loved their three daughters. I am thankful for my dad and appreciate having him in my life. Then and now.

Happy Father's Day, Dad! You will always be my hero!

Waiting for Berries

I can't wait until my parents' garden has ripe berries. We found a few tonight. My parents do an amazing job in their berry and vegetable garden!

Take it Outside

That was a memorable Father's Day, two years ago. The power was out. But we had fun anyway.

Zero Waste

I didn't know how much they would enjoy it. The chickens cleaned out the watermelon, with nothing to spare.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth." Genesis 1:28 ESV

Prayer is Key

I have much to learn about prayer. And I really want to know God in a deeper way. I am excited to dig in to my new book by Tim Keller, He says:

"Prayer is how God gives us so many of the unimaginable things he has for us. Indeed, prayer makes it safe for God to give us many of the things we desire. It is the way we know God, the way we finally treat God as God. Prayer is simply the key to everything we need to do and be in life."

Prayer: Experiencing Awe and Intimacy with God by Tim Keller

I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, Ephesians 1:16-20 ESV

Blessings on Her Birthday

I didn't get to see my Gramma when I stopped by the lake. I'm glad she was able to go out for a special lunch with my uncle and aunt. Birthdays are something to celebrate, even if life has changed dramatically in the last couple months.

Love you, Gramma!

Coming to a Lake Near You

Have inner tubes and towels. And a friend that lives on a lake. Works for us on a hot June day!

Hammock Sunday

Taking a Sunday nap. In a hammock in the shade of the pear tree. Works for me.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 ESV

Check the Oven

The quesadilla casserole didn't go as far as I thought it would. Dinner and not much for leftovers. But it would have helped if I had removed the second pan from the oven. I discovered it today. Two days later. Note to self: always check the oven.

You Mow, Girl!

We have a new mower on our team. She did great and successfully avoided trees, low-hanging limbs, and other obstacles.

And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Matthew 6:28-29 ESV

End of School Memories

How many years did we host the block party? Probably a dozen or more. We liked to celebrate the end of school and bring the neighborhood together. Seems like forever ago.

Biggest Fan

I love flowers but I'm not much for working in the yard. My mom's green thumb gene skipped me. Thankfully my husband loves to work with plants and keeps the yard looking nice. I'm his biggest fan!

Man at Work

I don't visit my husband at work very often. But when I do, it's nice to join him for lunch at his favorite place: my mom and dad's place next door. Works for us!

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV

Handle the Heat

I didn't think I could handle the heat. So we traded cars with my parents this weekend. It was nice to have air conditioning for our trip to Portland.

While we were gone, my parents and my Uncle Bob fixed the air conditioning in our car! Just in time for the summer. I did not expect that answer to prayer!

do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6 ESV

Family Wedding

If I hadn't moved across town and changed churches in college, I probably would not have been at the wedding yesterday. Funny how one decision affects the trajectory of your life. It was at the next church that I met my husband. Thirty years ago.

Making Memories

There is a lot going on today. Birthdays. Anniversaries. And today we kick off the summer wedding series. Making memories.

Hello Summer

And that's it for 9th grade! Our daughter's last day was yesterday.  First year at Olympia Regional Learning Academy went well.

Praise the Lord for a Good Report

It's been twenty years since my dad's four-way bypass surgery. With numerous stents since then.

Today he had an angiogram to see if there was any new blockage. Praise the Lord for a good report! He was able to go home after the procedure.

Pictured: All smiles after a good report.

And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy! Psalm 107:22 ESV

Beautiful Sunset

I asked the guy to stop in the parking lot. So I could get a quick sunset picture. My husband is a good sport.

Taste and See

It is good to get together on Tuesday nights. We reflect on what God is teaching us. Read scriptures. And pray. Our Life Group is small right now, but we are strong in the Lord.

Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8 ESV

Path We Take

When my husband mowed last week, it revealed the path we usually take to the chicken coop. It reminds me to think about what kind of example I am leaving.

Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray. Proverbs 10:17 ESV
