Chef Salad Bar

Grab a bowl and some tongs. Walk around the island and select toppings for your chef salad. Only next time get the avocado last. Or your tongs will get messy. And the sunflower seeds will stay on your tongs, not in your salad.

Gray Havens in the Mail

I hardly miss a Friday. I enter my name in Tim Challies' weekly drawing every week. And hope I will win some books or other cool stuff. I was a winner two weeks ago. I love the folk-pop Gray Havens cd, signed by the artists, and the coffee! The drawing closes at noon on Saturday.

Inaugural Dinner

It was the inaugural dinner. First official meal in the newly remodeled cabin. My parents are happy with the work done on their old cabin. Nice to have my sister and family here. Plus our oldest daughter. (Who arrived after this picture was taken.)

Prepare your work outside; get everything ready for yourself in the field, and after that build your house. Proverbs 24:27 ESV

Ming for Me

Years ago I had a house plant I loved. It looked like a little palm tree. I'm not sure why it was called a False Aralia. I found a Ming Aralia at Winco. I always say I didn't inherit my mom's green thumb. But maybe I just don't like working outside in the yard.

And God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth." And it was so. Genesis 1:11 ESV

Life Group Tonight

Let's get together and share what's going on. Over tea or coffee and cookies. What is God teaching us from His Word? How can we pray for each other? That's doing life together. Also known as Life Group. (Formerly called Community Group.)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1-2 ESV

Good Report for Mom

It was a beautiful day for a drive to Tacoma. To the doctor's office to get a good report on my mom's leg. The skin graft is healing well. My mom has been a model patient. With my dad as a great caregiver. And help with her bandages from the local EMTs and paramedic. (My cousins next door.)

She is now able to walk around the house a little. No work in the garden yet. But that's okay. She can start seeds in the house.

Jonah Part Three

We haven't even gotten to the big fish yet. But I am learning so much in the sermon series on Jonah. Today Pastor Seth Winterhalter preached the third message on Jonah: God's Authority and Man's Responsibility.

What can we learn from casting lots? Just because it's in the Bible, doesn't mean it is prescribed or recommended. "Too many of us are looking for divination. Instead of having faith."

You can jump in and listen online. Or come on Sundays in Olympia, at 9 or 11 AM.

And they said to one another, "Come, let us cast lots, that we may know on whose account this evil has come upon us." So they cast lots, and the lot fell on Jonah. Then they said to him, "Tell us on whose account this evil has come upon us. What is your occupation? And where do you come from? What is your country? And of what people are you?" And he said to them, "I am a Hebrew, and I fear the LORD, the God of heaven, who made the sea and the dry land." Jonah 1:7-9 ESV

Basil Love

I have a habit of picking up books at thrift stores and garage sales. And giving them away. After I pay for them, of course. But I am going to keep this children's book. I just finished reading Basil and the Lost Colony by Eve Titus. What a delightful mouse tale after the likes of Sherlock Holmes. I will be on the lookout for more of her books.

Free Stuff Fridays

Who do you trust for book reviews? And interesting links. Tim Challies is my go-to-guy. Fridays are a good day to check out his website. Sign up for Free Stuff Fridays up until noon on Saturday. Your email will be deleted after he draws a name. Guess who won last week? I will post a picture when it comes in the mail.

Serious Bargain Hunters

Olympia is taking bargain hunting to a new level. We have a Goodwill Outlet in town. That means you can dig for treasures. Literally. They roll in bins of clothes and odds and ends. People dig and haul. And pay by the pound. I bought three small items of clothing that weighed 0.6 pounds. And paid 97 cents. (It's $1.49 per pound.)

Tastes Like Your Chili

My daughter sampled a spoonful. "Tastes like your chili." To which I responded: "It IS my chili." She thought it was spaghetti sauce. But in fairness, it did contain the last of the marinara sauce. And half a jar of salsa. At least she didn't ask, "Where's the chili?"

Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, Proverbs 30:8 ESV

Walk in the Word

Today I washed dishes and Walked in the Word. At the same time. Thanks to a Walk in the Word app on my phone and my handy dandy lid holder. That doubles as an amplifier.  I miss listening to James McDonald in the car. But I can listen at home. Works for me.

Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 1 Corinthians 16:13 ESV

Beautiful Drive

My husband has great ideas. Like instead of going out for Valentine's lunch, take a meal out to my parents. We had a nice visit and caught a beautiful view on the drive home.

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, Hebrews 10:24 ESV

Team Valentine Love

My husband and daughter teamed up yesterday. And made a wonderful spaghetti dinner. With heart-shaped bread sticks. Happy Valentine's Day to me!

Love in the Mail

I planned to make some valentines and mail them to my children. I failed. Meanwhile my older daughter surprised us with a box of treats from Storyville Coffee. Baked and shipped with love. Happy Valentine's Day to us!

Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14 ESV

Another Day for Jesus

I am still reflecting on the memorial service yesterday. And Pastor Dick Myers' example. I like what he said to his daughter, 17 years ago, when both faced life-threatening health crises: "Another day for Jesus." I want to wake up saying that.

And say to Archippus, "See that you fulfill the ministry that you have received in the Lord." Colossians 4:17 ESV

Finished Well

Our friend almost died 17 years ago. My husband was on the church staff with Pastor Dick Myers back then, but God gave him more time. Time to share the Bible with friends, family, and people on the street.

There were many precious memories shared at the memorial service today. Including how Pastor Dick Myers answered the question of what it was like to be at the end of his life. He quoted Acts 20:24.  He finished the course and testified to the gospel of the the grace of God. All his days.

But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God. Acts 20:24 ESV

Ready for Narnia

I don't want to miss out. So I bought tickets for the musical, Narnia, today. We will be at the opening performance on March 14. I was so impressed with the quality of the Wizard of Oz production last year.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23 ESV

How Loved

I enjoy looking through old photos. Remembering how cute my kids were. And how loved they were and are by their grandparents.

Clean Margins

My mom had great news from the plastic surgeon today. The pathology report came back showing "clean margins" around the melanoma. No more surgery required. The skin graft is doing well so she is on her way to recovery.

God is Speaking, Are You Listening?

I am excited about the new sermon series at Harbor Church, Jonah: God's Pursuit of Man. Pastor Seth Winterhalter preached the first sermon today.

"Sometimes we have a small view of God because we have a small view of sin."

"Activity is a poor substitute for obedience."

I liked what Pastor Seth had to say about open doors.

You can listen to the audio at:

Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and call out against it, for their evil has come up before me." But Jonah rose to flee to Tarshish from the presence of the LORD. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish. So he paid the fare and went down into it, to go with them to Tarshish, away from the presence of the LORD. Jonah 1:1-3 ESV

Brand New Building

The  Olympia Regional Learning Academy (ORLA) is part of the Olympia School District, and has been a great place for my daughter's freshman year. I'm glad my daughter can enjoy a brand new school building. Ready to open soon. We had a tour today.

Out Again

I forgot the one thing my daughter asked me to get at the store. When I ventured out again, I ran into an old friend I never see any more. So glad our paths crossed! It was the bright spot of my day.

Modern Day Ezra

I can't believe he is gone. I just sat across the table from him at December's Soup and Sound. Pastor Dick Myers was a dear friend and pastor. He faithfully kept track of birthdays and anniversaries. And was always ready to pull out his worn out New Testament and share a word of scripture. I will miss my modern day Ezra.

Surgery Day for Mom

My parents and I should spend a day together. Just for fun. But if my mom has to have surgery, I'm glad I can be with them.

The plastic surgeon removed the melanoma from her leg and hopes he got it all. But the pathology results won't be in for a week. My mom will be off her feet for two weeks while she recuperates and lets the skin graft heal.

Praise the Lord!

I try to refrain from saying God is good. In response to a favorable answer to prayer. God is always good! And I am thankful for good results for my mom's lymph node biopsies. The skin cancer has not spread.

From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the LORD is to be praised! Psalm 113:3 ESV

Saturday Coffee

No need to take a picture of our Saturday coffee date. With the grandparents and my daughters. We took a picture last time. Works for us.

Out in the Car

What are you doing out in the car? Listening to football. Eating chili. Too bad things didn't work out better today.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. Psalm 136:1 ESV
