Start the Day

I'm still working on a summer routine. Need to find a rhythm. But as long as I start the day with time in God's Word, I'm okay.

Let me hear in the morning of your steadfast love, for in you I trust. Make me know the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. Psalm 143:8 ESV

Empowered by the Spirit to Have a Testimony

What's the difference between a biography and a testimony? Today Pastor Mark Driscoll preached about Saul's story from Acts 9:19b-31. Saul (later called Paul) put the focus on what God had done--that's a testimony. Don't miss this sermon in the Acts series at Mars Hill.

And immediately he proclaimed Jesus in the synagogues, saying, "He is the Son of God." And all who heard him were amazed and said, "Is not this the man who made havoc in Jerusalem of those who called upon this name? And has he not come here for this purpose, to bring them bound before the chief priests?" Acts 9:20-21 ESV

Sister Love

I am happy to facilitate. Help drive so my daughters can meet up and spend time together.

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14 ESV

After the Trial

What are you doing to do when stuck in a room with 13 other people? For hours. Make conversation. I told a fellow juror about my herb garden. She is a real green thumb. I'm just a fan.

And today Juror #7 came to my house with some seeds and some plants.

a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; Ecclesiastes 3:2 ESV

Juror #6

I turned in my badge. I am free to talk. The defendant decided to change his plea to guilty, which means the trial is over. I am thankful I was spared from hearing any more details or seeing photos from a murder case.

The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him. Proverbs 18:17 ESV

Thumbs Up

They said I would love it. There is no going back. And they are right. I love having a smart phone and getting help with directions. Recording notes. Checking email without my laptop. But I still haven't figured out how to move my thumbs like the pros.

a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; Ecclesiastes 3:5 ESV

Overnight Success

My timing was off. The yogurt was due to be done at midnight. No worries. My friend said I could leave it overnight. And it turned out just fine.

She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. Proverbs 31:15 ESV

Summer Plan

I need a summer plan. A schedule. Goals. Meanwhile, I take things as they come. Like reporting for jury duty. Starting tomorrow.

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:12 ESV

Empowered by the Spirit to be a Sent Saint

How do you know if you are hearing from God? What is the difference between a vision and a dream? And what if God asks you to do something you are afraid to do? Don't miss Pastor Mark Driscoll's sermon from Acts 9 about Ananias and Saul/Paul.

Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias. The Lord said to him in a vision, "Ananias." And he said, "Here I am, Lord." And the Lord said to him, "Rise and go to the street called Straight, and at the house of Judas look for a man of Tarsus named Saul, for behold, he is praying, and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him so that he might regain his sight." Acts 9:10-12 ESV

Skillet Pizza

I found inspiration for dinner. On the cover of a free magazine at the library. Skillet pizza minus the broccoli rabe. I used onion, red and orange peppers, and Canadian bacon. Plus olives and pineapple. Yum!

Community Group Move

I'll let the others do the heavy lifting. Like a chicken coop. Complete with chickens. And a piano.

I can help pack, bake the pizzas, and entertain the babies. That's how you help someone in your community group move!

Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2 ESV

On-Call

I love having my youngest around. Not just because she's a great companion and helper. She is my tech support and on-call photographer.

Happy Birthday Gramma!

I wish I had a video of the birthday song. There are some good singers in my mom's family. Including one cousin who joined by Facetime. How special to celebrate the 92nd birthday of one of my heroes. I love my Gramma and am so thankful for her influence on my life.

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates. Proverbs 31:30-31 ESV

Profiles of Great Dads

The older I get, the more I appreciate and value the godly men in my life. Not everyone has such a legacy. And many are not with us any more.

I am blessed to have my dad and my father-in-law close by. And the best dad I could have ever wanted for my children. Happy Father's Day!

Classic Driscoll

Don't miss the last sermon from Mark Driscoll. It is classic Driscoll. Passionate. On fire for Jesus. Full of truth from the Bible. Watch this sermon from the Acts series, even if you have missed the others.

And the Spirit said to Philip, "Go over and join this chariot." So Philip ran to him and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and asked, "Do you understand what you are reading?" And he said, "How can I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Acts 8:29-31 ESV

Looking Good

He thought it was just a road trip. But I don't think he minded the shots and attention from the nice people at the vet. He's looking good. At ten years of age. In people years.

O LORD, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures. Psalm 104:24 ESV

My Dear Friend

Who has the biggest heart of anyone I know? Opens her home to family, friends, and anyone in need? Blesses all who know her? That's my dear friend, Celia. And today is her birthday!

Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good, and so train the young women to love their husbands and children, Titus 2:3-4 ESV

Fishing Memories

I wish I could have included more photos in the slide show. For my daughter's eighth grade graduation. Like this one of her and her brother fishing, four years ago.

Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 1 Peter 3:8 ESV

Unplanned Lunch

Our schedules don't always line up. But they did today. My parents walked in the restaurant just as we were sitting down. I love unplanned Sunday lunches!

Little Sister

I did not expect to hold the baby. With her grandmas there. And great grandma. And aunts. But I had a turn at the birthday party for the big sister, who is now 2.

What happened to the shy and sensitive little kindergartner? I am so proud of my daughter for volunteering to give a speech at her eighth grade graduation.

Sibling Love

Who drives for hours in one day to attend a graduation? Her brother and sister, that's who!

My youngest graduated from eighth grade at the Christian School tonight. Her brother drove down from Bellingham. And back. Her sister drove from Seattle. And back. That's a lot of sibling love!

and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, 1 Thessalonians 3:12 ESV

Popcorn Chicken

We are slowly winning them over. No more running away squawking. Our three new chickens like popcorn. Now if we could get them to lay more eggs. We are getting one egg every other day.

So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:21 ESV

Before and After Math

My daughter gave it her best shot. Spent two and a half hours on the End of Course exam in Algebra. If she passes, she will get a high school requirement out of the way. Not bad for an eighth grader.

Not on the Payroll

People regularly ask, "Do you work here?" At the thrift stores or grocery stores. I don't have a name tag or uniform. But yes, I can probably help you find what you are looking for.

Empowered by the Spirit for Mission

At our church, we like to say that it's all about Jesus. Which is true. But we also want to honor the Holy Spirit and understand His important role in our lives. Don't miss today's sermon by Pastor Dave Bruskas, one of the three executive pastors at Mars Hill.

  • The Holy Spirit's power is greater than spirituality.
  • The Holy Spirit's presence is the greatest gift.
  • The Holy Spirit cannot by manipulated.

But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you. For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity." And Simon answered, "Pray for me to the Lord, that nothing of what you have said may come upon me."  Acts 8:20-24 ESV
