Forest Festival Parade 2014

I hoped I would see some friends in the parade. Sure enough, there go my friends in their World War 2 jeep. I saw my cousin, but he didn't see me. And kids I've watched grow up, including the beautiful Forest Festival Queen. Congrats Anna!

Birthday Dinner

It doesn't seem fair when others are missing their moms. I don't take it for granted that I have both my mom and my mother-in-law.

Happy Birthday to my mother-in-law, who is also my good friend!

Go Anyway

To be honest, I didn't feel like praying. But I go every Wednesday, and meet with one or two other parents. So I went anyway. And glad I did.

pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 1 Thessalonians 5:17-18 ESV

Good Year to be Born

The birthdays are coming fast! My fourth brother-in-law turned 50. All this month. I like to say that 1964 was a good year.

Pictured: Photo op on the ferry with my brother-in-law and nephew last summer.

Use What You Have

I love how my husband gets resourceful. Like pruning a branch from the apple tree to make a trellis for the grape plant. Inexpensive way to get things done. And I love the way it's going to look.

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;  Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 ESV

Memorial Day 2014

One of the highlights of my daughters' trip to Washington D.C. area, was visiting some of the memorials. It is good to learn about our history and appreciate the sacrifices made.

Empowered by the Spirit to Face Wolves

I think that is the longest portion of scripture read aloud in our church. Pastor Mark Driscoll read Stephen's bold sermon in Acts 7. While we stood in respect. And talked about the wolves attacking the church. Don't miss this powerful message!

But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. And he said, "Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God." Acts 7:55-56 ESV

Another Weekend

It's always good to have the sisters together. And time with my older daughter. Another weekend at home!

Perfect Combination

I love how our meals come together. I bought some sparkling raspberry limeade as a treat for our community group. Perfect for mixing with the sparkling seltzer water my friend brought.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Acts 2:42 ESV

Small World

I thought I was praying for two different people. But the stories started sounding similar. Turns out my friend's mom is also related to another friend of mine.  I will keep praying for her health and healing.

Don't Be in Such a Hurry

Yesterday I missed an opportunity. My friend asked for prayer and I could have paused for a moment. Then and there. With God's help, I can be more responsive next time.

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:16 ESV

Almost Eight

My little friend will be 8 years old  this week. So we stopped for a treat before our tutoring session. Works for us!

The Replacements

The replacements are here. Three laying Rhode Island Reds from our neighbor. Hope they like their new home and stay safe. Their wings are clipped so that they don't stray too far.

Although there will never be a replacement for our white hen, fondly named Floyd.

So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. Genesis 1:21 ESV

Birthday Girl

She will always be my baby sister. No matter how many birthday candles there are. Wish she was closer so I could make her a cheesecake! Love you, Sis!

Impromptu Day Trip

What happens when it's a beautiful day, your daughter has a new-to-her camera, and your older daughter comes home for the weekend? You take a drive to a beach. Fun, impromptu day trip. Works for us.

Trail of Feathers

Our last chicken was a survivor but I don't know if she is coming back. There is a trail of feathers in our backyard. The dog next door has an alibi. And an electric fence. Could have been a hawk or coyote. This might be the end of our chicken run. For now.

Ready for Rain

I like what the landscaper is doing. I think I'll hire him. Or just feed him. I love my husband's handiwork!

Doctrine of Suffering

If you have questions about suffering, this 14-minute podcast is a good place to start. I'm new to David Platt, but I think I like him.

New Rhythm

I need to find a new rhythm. For my week. Now that Bible Study Fellowship is over.

Around the Table

I appreciate how my daughter is always willing to help out. Be the designated photographer. Take panoramic shots around the dinner table. And capture family memories.  Too bad she didn't get in this photo.

Had Me Covered

How many days go by without recognition? Or simple thanks? I can't count all the sewing projects, Saturday night curler sessions, and help with projects. Or meals prepared, and cleaned up. Day in. Day out. Year after year.

And I am blessed to have the prayers of my mom and grandmother covering me all these years.

I love you, Mom and Gramma! Happy Mother's Day to my heroes!

Surprised Me

My son has a way of showing up. Surprising me for Mother's Day. Nice to have my son and his girlfriend here for a family dinner. With both sets of grandparents. My older daughter joined us too.

Love having my children and parents around! (But we all miss my oldest in California!)

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14 ESV

Mother and Son

I am thankful for the mothers in my life. Including my mother-in-law, who gave me such a wonderful husband!

It's hard to believe it has been 12 years. My neighbor and I have been close friends ever since the birth of her daughter. And now the baby is lovely young woman!

Happy Birthday Molly!

To God be the Glory

I can't believe the year in Matthew is over. I love studying God's Word with other women. I am going to miss the homework, hymns, lively discussions, and lectures.

I can't wait to study the life of Moses in September!

And Jesus came and said to them, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:18-20 ESV

Herb Garden Love

Happy early Mother's Day to me! My husband built me an herb garden. Re-purposed an old ladder and collected pots from around the house. With a bird house from a Mother's Day several years ago.

Now I can cook with fresh herbs! Love it!

U.S. Capitol and Back

It's hard to believe my daughters went all the way across the county and back. Already. My older daughter is back to work. My younger daughter is home recovering from being sick. Hope this virus passes quickly!

Empowered by the Spirit for Ministry

We return to the book of Acts. Pastor Mark Driscoll kicked off the continuing series. With a powerful look at the early church and how we can learn from their example of bold witness. And face persecution with rejoicing. By the power of the Holy Spirit.

Pictured: The study guide for the first series. I need to get the new one!

A Mighty Woman with a Torch

It's one thing to study in school. Or read books. But it's totally different to see things in person. Like my two daughters, who are visiting the Statue of Liberty today. http://widemargins.blogspot.com/2009/01/breathe-free.html
