Jesus is Alive

He is Risen!

Our church service was broadcast across all 14 locations. And available by streaming online. Because Jesus is alive. That's something to celebrate!

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles. 1 Corinthians 15:3-7 ESV

Waterfall Hike

What a beautiful Saturday before Easter! Perfect for a day hike. Or two. With five out of six of us.

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit upon your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. Isaiah 44:3 ESV

Not Too Old

You don't outgrow your need for the cross. I need the cross. Every day. Just like this mom articulated:

http://www.thegalottis.com/2013/03/motherhood-at-foot-of-cross.html

She said it well:  I'm a mother in need of the forgiveness and grace found only at the cross of my Savior.

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. 2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV

Close Call

Clumsy me. I got out of the car and dropped my keys. Right next to the storm drain outside the library. Good thing my keys hit the pavement and were not lost. With a car full of groceries and lots to do today.

Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me. Psalm 119:133 ESV

More Words from the Cross

I appreciate Mark Altrogge's series of posts about Jesus' words from the cross. It is good to meditate on what Jesus did on the cross as we look toward Good Friday and Easter.

And if you feel alone, take heart:
Do you feel abandoned?  Alone?  Jesus was forsaken in your place.  You will never be forsaken.  Jesus promised he would never leave nor forsake his children.  No one can snatch you out of the Father’s hand.  And Jesus will keep you until he takes you home to heaven.

Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?" that is, "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" Matthew 27:45-46 ESV

Dear Friends

I have some dates firmly in place. Then there's Facebook to remind me of others. I missed one dear friend's birthday earlier this month. (Sorry Connie!) How could I after 21 years of friendship?

But today is another good friend's birthday. And I just happen to have a recent photo of the two of us. Happy Birthday Nancy!

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, Colossians 1:3 ESV

Words from the Cross

One week until Easter. This is a good time to think about what Jesus did. For me and you. Like this post from Mark Altrogge. He is a pastor and songwriter, including songs you may know, like I Stand in Awe and Forever Grateful.

Back to Where We Started

Twenty-one years ago we moved to Shelton so my husband could work for a home-school mail-order company. Several jobs and a Masters degree later, we come full circle. My husband is now an employee at the Timberdoodle again. We are thankful for steady work, God's provision, and answered prayer.

Check out their website. They have cool educational materials, art supplies, games, and lots more. Whether you home-school or not.

You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many. 2 Corinthians 1:11 ESV

In the New House

Tonight was the first time to host our community group in our new place. Too bad we don't have any toys for little people handy. Good thing we have our kids' well-loved bears around. Hand-made with love by Grandma.

And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, Acts 2:46 ESV

For Our Family

Where you goin' with all that firewood? My husband was generously offered some firewood. Ready to split and load. And season. Perfect for burning in the old trash-burning electric stove in our new home. I love how God provides and my husband puts in the labor. For our family.

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV

What's For Lunch?

Leftovers are a hot commodity in our house. They are great for packing lunches, especially if you have a way to chill and then heat them up.

Today I wondered why my youngest didn't take the rice and creamed tuna I set aside for her. Until she called and told me she found steel cut oatmeal in her  lunch bag.

Muffin Mom

I'm on a break from high school. After three high school graduations in four years. I ran into a high school secretary today. She misses my muffins. I forgot that I used to bring care packages by the office. I will be back. Our youngest will be in high school soon enough.

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. Hebrews 13:16 ESV

I am Heard

God always answers prayer. Last week's sermon in the Ephesians series was all about prayer. How does God answer prayer? Yes, no, or later.

I can attest to that. I prayed for several years that I would be able to give myself my weekly MS shot. I wasn't able to, but God always provided someone who could. Thank you Sue, Sarah, Jan, and Jaynee! Until last week when I tried out the new Avonex pen. I can do that. Thank you, Lord!

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21 ESV

Love my Island

Take one bottom bunk, no longer in use, and add a granite counter from craigslist. With a little re-purposing by your handy husband. What do you get?  A kitchen island, perfect for your new home. Works great for food preparation or a place to sit and eat.

Fancy Meeting You Here

I'm glad my parents did not stop by. I wasn't home. But we did show up at our favorite bargain store at the same time. Love it when that happens.

No Microscope Required

Did you know you can see DNA with no microscope required? My daughter demonstrated how to extract DNA from a strawberry for her science report. She did a great job researching, explaining, and giving an oral presentation. I love the emphasis on science at her Christian School.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:14 ESV

Love to Study

I am already sad about only having 9 weeks left. I love studying God's Word at Bible Study Fellowship.

Jacob said to him, "You yourself know how I have served you, and how your livestock has fared with me. For you had little before I came, and it has increased abundantly, and the LORD has blessed you wherever I turned. But now when shall I provide for my own household also?" Genesis 30:29-30 ESV

Fun Memory

I downloaded photos off my camera. And found some fun memories. Like the spur-of-the-moment walk along the waterfront with my daughter and my friend Nancy.

Privacy Settings

My mom is good to share helpful information with me. Like this article about privacy settings on Facebook. You might want to check your settings too.

I am Afflicted

I am one week behind. I missed last week's sermon because I was at the connect desk at church. People say Pastor Mark Driscoll's message on suffering is helpful. I can listen or watch online.

So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory. Ephesians 3:13 ESV

Cleaned Out

That was a team effort. The old house is all cleaned out. The garage hasn't been that empty since it was built. Now to deal with all the stuff we hauled out of there. We can do that.

Pictured: My daughter swept like crazy before the new tenants arrived to sign papers.

New Landlord Help

Friends and family have had good advice. And I'm thankful for the Washington Landlord Association. They have tons of articles and forms. Perfect for a newbie landlord like myself.

Last Work Party

As my daughter put it, "What would we do without our community group?" Once again they rolled up their sleeves and worked on our house. It's the last time we will meet in our beloved home before renters move in.

Our fridge and freezer are sparkling, bathroom spotless, new blinds hung, flooring projects completed, and more.

Thinking about College?

That was a weird phone call. The caller asked if I had any plans to attend college in the next three months. Uh, no. And why wouldn't I? Maybe because I already have a college degree. Now if someone was offering to pay for graduate school, that would be a different story.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! Psalm 111:10 ESV

A Load Off

It's the final count down to tenants moving in our home. My husband isn't feeling well so I volunteered to load up the truck for the landfill. It was great to have my girlfriend's help.

Slow Leak

I am not the most prepared person in the world. But I know enough to take something with me when having my tires checked. I finished my Bible Study Fellowship homework while I waited. And got the nail removed from my tire and tire patched.

Consider how I love your precepts! Give me life according to your steadfast love. Psalm 119:159 ESV

I am Reconciled

Last week's sermon included a history lesson. Why is there so much conflict in the world? And how did Jesus tear down walls of hostility?

But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility Ephesians 2:13-14 ESV

Stand-in

We were all signed up. My daughter even did a radio interview about the Expanding Your Horizons conference for girls. But ended up sick this week so she couldn't attend. So I took my friend's daughter. It was a great conference, but I really missed my daughter.

Found Money

What do you do with found money? I noticed two crisp $2 bills inside the wallet at the rummage sale. If I bought the wallet, wasn't it mine?

As I walked around, a gentleman helping at the church sale told me I had a moral obligation to buy stuff. Since "every penny helps people in need in our community." That settles it. I turned in the money and the 10 year-old receipts when I made my purchases. My conscience is clear.

Whoever despises his neighbor is a sinner, but blessed is he who is generous to the poor. Proverbs 14:21 ESV
