Meet Up

We needed a place to meet up. And I know the perfect spot. Our family's favorite: Bagel Brothers. With free coffee on Small Business Saturday. Works for us!

Little Readers

I can't believe I didn't take any pictures of the cousins together today. We had fun hanging out and eating custom calzones today.

Pictured: Captured this picture of my little reader nieces at my parents' home the other day.

Give Thanks

Guessing jar. Check. Place cards. Check. Good food (turkey and ham!) and great fellowship. Check. Devotional thoughts  and prayer from my husband. Check.

All the kids under one roof. Not quite. We had three out of four and my brother-in-law had one out of two.

And introducing the first progressive Thanksgiving festivities  and 3K Huff and Puff Turkey Stuff.

Grateful hearts for our many blessings. Check. Happy Thanksgiving!

Duck Face

I was given permission to post this photo. My daughter and two cousins making duck faces. That's what I call cheap entertainment.

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV

Family Times Begin

It's great to have my sister and family back in town. Let the Thanksgiving family times begin!

For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. Psalm 86:5 ESV

How Have You Loved Us

I was sad to have the series end. Not that I want more commandments to follow. But the new series on the book of Malachi is good. Settles some of the basic issues of who God is and what He is like. I appreciate how Pastor Mark Driscoll gives the back story, going back to Jacob and Esau.

Get ready to think about your legacy.

Count on Him

You can count on him. He is a good father and good friend. Set an example of how to love his wife in sickness and in health.

Happy Birthday, Dan!

Count Down

Some are counting down until Thanksgiving or Christmas. My count down to the end of 8th grade has begun. Yesterday was one of the last outings to Skateland with my daughter's school. How many treks have we made since kindergarten? Shelled out a couple bucks at the door. Watched the kids and intrepid parents skate. And heard Mr. E. lead the games and chicken dance.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15 ESV

Two Nights in a Row

We weren't sure what night worked best. So we hosted special community group dinners on two nights this week. Tonight's ham in the slow cooker was perfectly done. The baked salmon took a little longer than I planned for. But it all came together. With plenty of food and desserts for 18 people.

And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, Acts 2:46 ESV

More to Come

We are practicing up for Thanksgiving. I don't mean stuffing ourselves. Arranging all the chairs. Inviting community group people and other friends. Enjoying good food and fellowship. We had 15 people here tonight and would have gladly made room for more.

As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, "Follow me." And he rose and followed him. Prayer in the Afternoon

I like having Bible Study Fellowship on Wednesday morning. Then I can share something at parent prayer time in the afternoon. Like today I read Matthew 9:2 about how the friends brought the paralytic to Jesus. We can bring our friends and concerns to Jesus. Jesus hears our prayers and responds.

And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven." Matthew 9:2 ESV

Divine Appointment

I had places to go. Things to do. But the side effects from my shot last night sent me home. Just in time to answer a knock on the door. Could I give my new neighbors a jump start? I can do that.

The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps. Proverbs 16:9 ESV

Back in the Day

It's fun to look back through old photos. And remember how my kids endured family photos. Our living room wall was green. I used to wear denim jumpers. We had a futon. I still have the afghan my Gramma made when I graduated from high school. Back in the day.

Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 12:10 ESV

Do Not Covet

We wrapped up the Ten Commandments sermons today. The 10th commandment gets at heart issues. Coveting, or wanting something that isn't mine, can lead to breaking the other commandments. The antidote to coveting is contentment.

But ultimately it comes down to trust. Do I trust that God has my best interests at heart? And His rules are to protect me.

Saturday Breakfast

Maybe this could be our new tradition. Breakfast on Saturdays with the in-laws. I could get used to that. Crispy buckwheat waffles, eggs, bacon, and coffee. My mother-in-law takes good care of us.

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10 ESV

Faith of Friends

I love the story of the paralytic and his friends. Jesus responded to their faith. Friends can help bring us to Jesus. And be instrumental in healing. I want to be that kind of friend, too.

And behold, some people brought to him a paralytic, lying on a bed. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven." Matthew 9:2 ESV

Time for Cheesecake

I usually spend all Thursday afternoon catching up on housework. So we are ready to host community group.

But I was ahead of the game this week. So I had extra time to cook and bake. Along with a main dish, I baked a cheesecake. I used low-fat cream cheese and plain Greek yogurt. It turned out great. And disappeared.

Great Calm

I find encouragement every week. I love studying God's Word at Bible Study Fellowship. Today we read about Jesus' authority over the storm at sea. He brings calm in the storms. Great calm. We all need that.

And when he got into the boat, his disciples followed him. And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but he was asleep. And they went and woke him, saying, "Save us, Lord; we are perishing." And he said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. Matthew 8:23-26 ESV

Tuesday Morning Ladies

I love my Tuesday morning ladies. And two little friends. We dig into the Word and have sweet prayer time.

My Favorite Sailor

Today is a good day to re-read my grampa's book of poems. He started writing poems in the Navy during World War 2. While others were gambling or playing cards, he was writing bits of poetry on scraps of paper. He wrote love poems to my gramma, poems for his two (at that time) young children, and poems about the sea, sunsets, and Scripture.

He continued to write poems until his stroke a few years ago.

At age 92, my grampa is my favorite sailor and my hero.

Thank you for your service to your country and faithful love for your family, including your wife of 72 years.

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, Titus 2:11-13 ESV

Do Not Lie

You might think you are doing a good job of avoiding the big sins. But, as Pastor Mark explained today, sin is like water. It seeps into cracks and finds the low spots. Sin settles in so it can erode. You might be breaking the 9th commandment without thinking about it. Listen for yourself and be convicted.

Raise Your Card

My husband has always wanted to place a bid at an auction. Tonight he got his chance to raise his card and donate money to a good cause. He bought a "death by chocolate" cake in support of Mason County Christian School.

My favorite highlight was listening to the 4th and 5th grade choir sing their hearts out.

With thanks to the volunteers who put on a beautifully decorated event with a delicious turkey dinner.

Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! 1 Chronicles 16:34 ESV

Sweet Cousin Time

We are soaking in all the cousin time we can. My littlest niece is a big fan of my daughter's. It's great to have my sister and family in town for a while.

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, Colossians 3:12 ESV

Special Guests

We were honored to have special guests at community group. It was the Little Guy's debut, at not even three weeks old. Plus my sister and her family joined us. Little friends enjoyed my book collection. We ate well (with turkey chili, pad Thai, stew, and my mom sent a delicious coffee cake). We had singing, accompanied by guitar. And prayer time.

Sunday Plans

Start planning your Sunday now. We are going to two services this week: 9 AM and 11:15 AM. You will probably find me at the later service. You will find my husband wearing a blue shirt and working with the children in the later service.

We meet on the beautiful campus of South Puget Sound Community College. For now.

Blue Fiesta Love

My older daughter came home bearing gifts. With the perfect mug for me. A Fiesta mug in a stunning shade of blue. I feel very loved with every cup of tea and coffee.

Do Not Steal

We are making our way through the Ten Commandments. Today was the eighth one, "Do not steal." Pastor Mark Driscoll is good at making it personal and relevant. And convicting.

Girl Cousins!

The little cousins love spending time with my daughters. My sister and family came to town so we convened at my parents' place. My older daughter drove home for the day too. Love family time!

Rise and Shine

That's one way to get motivated to get out of bed on a dark morning. Remember that you didn't put the garbage and recycling out. Plus I was on duty to teach algebra first thing this morning. On the upside, there was a spectacular sunrise on the way to my daughter's school.

Pictured: I didn't capture the sunrise on camera, but the trees are beautiful this time of year.
