Leaving the Farm

I love how my husband is willing to help others in their time of need. Like my sister and family who are moving. He drove down to their farm and helped pack things up.

We continue to pray for God's leading for the family as they see what God has next for them.

Wind and Rain

That was a close one. A big limb fell across my driveway. Right after my friend and little baby were parked in that spot. I am always thankful for God's protection, and sometimes I see what I was spared.

For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. Psalm 91:11 ESV

Teen Party

Movie, snacks, pizza and cake. And a house full of friends. Perfect for a  a thirteen-year-old's birthday party.

And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Colossians 3:15 ESV

24 Years Today

He has been entertaining us from day one. Keeping things lively. With a quick mind and tender heart.
I am proud to call this young man my son. Happy 24th birthday to my Taiwan-born son!

With Our Blessing

Our small group Bible study, or community group as we call it, has been through a lot. Babies, illness, death, job changes, moving, birthdays, etc. We basically share life together. With lots of good meals and prayer times along the way.

Today was the last official time one of our families will be with us. They are moving on to new things for their family. With our blessing and support. And an open invitation to join us any time. We love you, Faust family!

See You at the Pole 2013

We don't have to get permission. We can pray at our Christian School any time, anywhere. Today the middle schoolers participated in the global See You at the Pole event. Which falls on the fourth Wednesday in September every year. Our students selected scriptures and prayed.

if my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 ESV

Labor of Love

We appreciate her labor of love. My daughter split and stacked a lot of firewood before she left. It's perfect for building fires in the old trash-burner stove. And warming us up on these cold nights of fall.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23 ESV

Keen What?

I learned how to say it a while ago. Tonight I cooked my first pot of quinoa. Three out of three people surveyed liked it. Works for us.

Day of Rest

I do not miss church very often. But today my husband and I were both fighting colds. So we stayed home to rest. I'm glad we can watch the sermon online.

For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:12 ESV

Moving Beyond Ordinary

Sometimes I get in the car at just the right time. And catch a good radio program. Then I can go online and catch the rest of it. Tonight I listened to Part One and Two of Moving Beyond Ordinary in Your Marriage on Focus on the Family Radio. This is a powerful story of a marriage that seemed doomed to fail. But God did an amazing work in their lives. With lessons for all of us.

Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness. Hebrews 12:9-10 ESV

Subject to Change

I was the parent of college students. Not any more. A few days ago I happily reclaimed the title, Mother of a Teenager.

It's a good thing my identity is not rooted in my role. Because that keeps changing. I am thankful that my identity comes from my relationship to my Creator. That is not subject to change.

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV

High Fives

Let the high fives begin. I love how the girls are so supportive of each other. Today was the first varsity volleyball game of the season.

Joy to the World

I wasn't expecting a Christmas hymn already. But then today's lecture in Bible Study Fellowship was on Matthew 1. Where we read about Jesus' genealogy and birth. So it makes perfect sense.

She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins." All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet: "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel" (which means, God with us). Matthew 1:21-23 ESv

Set Free to Live Free

Are the Ten Commandments still relevant today? Yes they are. You can follow along with Pastor Mark Driscoll and the 10-week series. The first sermon was powerful!

"Freedom is not freedom to jump the fence. Freedom is freedom to play in the yard."

And God spoke all these words, saying, "I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. "You shall have no other gods before me. Exodus 20:1-3 ESV

Sister Love

My daughters are more than sisters. They are great friends! Love that!

Birthday Buddies: Then and Now

My son said, "Thanks, but am I getting anything else for my birthday?" I don't even remember what else he got that year. But he was a super big brother to his little sister from day one. Here we are thirteen years later.

Family Dinner Love

Last Saturday I had three of my children, plus one girlfriend, in one place. We enjoyed a nice dinner at the Olive Garden restaurant. With thanks to my friend, who blessed us with a gift card.

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV

Faithful Shopper

I am a faithful shopper. Like the one Friday I shopped this church rummage sale in the morning. And delivered my youngest that night. Thirteen years ago this weekend. Today I had fun bargain hunting and conversing with other customers. Works for me.

Day to Remember

It's the day to remember. Where were you 12 years ago? I remember holding my almost-one-year-old baby tighter. Wondering what kind of world she would grow up in. Today I heard the first-person story of a survivor in the Twin Towers. You can listen to the amazing story online on Focus on the Family's broadcast:{22BF63C1-4C77-4161-BF9C-C6B8A07DEB74}

Practices Begin

It's going to be a great season. There are new girls playing volleyball for the first time. And it's my daughter's fourth year. Let the practices begin and games commence soon.

Perfect Day

Every year my friend buys us tickets for the Wild Waves theme park. You never know how the weather is going to be on that day. Could be chilly, raining, or blazing hot. This year was not too hot, not too cold. A perfect day for my kids to convene from Bellingham, Seattle, and Shelton.

Breaking Free from Strongholds

My husband told me this was a good sermon. He was able to sit in church while I was on duty at the Connect Desk. Dr. Eric Mason was the last of the summer guest speakers at Mars Hill. I'm glad I can watch it online at home.

For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 ESV

As Good as They Say

My daughter survived a three-week intensive training and screening. And got the job in a brand new coffee shop in Pike Place Market. Yesterday we visited Storyville and sampled the lattes and pastries I've been hearing about. Yes, it is as good as they say.

Pictured: Ready to enter Storyville for our preview of the store, opening in October.

Best Latte Ever

That was the best latte I have ever had. Worth the trip to Seattle early this morning. We were invited to a private opening at Storyville Coffee in Pike Place Market, open to the public in October. Can't wait to go back. And see my daughter who is working there!

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 ESV

Way with Words

My friend has a way with words. She makes banners and signs everywhere. Like this one at the Christian School. Love it!

First Day of Eighth Grade

No more standing in front of the garage door. Every first day of school since 1998. We moved across town and the older three are out of the house. My youngest graciously allowed me to take a photo by the brick wall in her bedroom. Eighth grade, here she comes!

Offer right sacrifices, and put your trust in the LORD. Psalm 4:5 ESV

Not by Might

I can't claim every verse in the Bible. It's important to look at the context, who it is written to, etc. But I am encouraged by God's message to Zerubbabel in the book of Zechariah. I don't have to do everything by my own strength and power. I can't. I can rely on God to work in and through me.

Then he said to me, "This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the LORD of hosts. Zechariah 4:6 ESV

Thriving in Babylon

All summer we've had guest speakers bring their "best sermon ever." Yesterday we heard Dr. Larry Osborne preach on Daniel. Not the Daniel in the lion's den or in the fiery furnace. But the Daniel who not only survived, but thrived because he knew Who really was in control.

You can watch or listen here:

And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the vessels of the house of God. And he brought them to the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and placed the vessels in the treasury of his god. Daniel 1:2 ESV

Mars Hill Ballard

My husband missed the sermon because he was serving in children's ministry. He could watch the sermon online later. Or we could drive to Seattle and catch an evening service. And have dinner with our daughter. What a great way to close out the summer!

There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. Ephesians 4:4-6 ESV
