Tackle Little Jobs

I don't think anyone will notice. Except me. I took a few minutes to tackle some jobs that get overlooked. Like cleaning off small appliances, wiping out the microwave, polishing my tea kettle, etc. Works for me.

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23 ESV

Say Good-bye

We say good-bye to summer vacation. It's been a full summer but not too crazy. Just lots of family times and comings and goings. Now to gear up for school for my youngest!

Brings Joy

My little sister was a lot of fun growing up. Kept us laughing. And now her youngest brings joy to us all. Happy 2nd birthday to the youngest cousin!

Help Out

I am glad to help out. Eat up my mom's leftovers. Take extra garden produce off her hands. I love impromptu dinners with my parents! They take good care of me.

They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share, 1 Timothy 6:18 ESV

Still Sweet

Where were we 25 years ago? Celebrating my sister's wedding. Enjoying a delicious Chinese buffet at the reception. Watching the bride and groom dance to "How Sweet it is."

Happy 25th anniversary to my sister and husband! Love you guys!

Keep Your Heart with All Vigilance

It was a familiar verse. But Dr.Wayne Grudem's sermon on Proverbs 4:23 brought new understanding. And plenty of conviction about what it means to keep our hearts, why we should, and how to do it. Don't miss this sermon in the summer series at Mars Hill!

Great Example

When I think of my parents' marriage, I think of teamwork. But they also enjoy life together. They are partners and best friends. And set a great example.

Happy 51st anniversary Dad and Mom!

Make Do

I don't like empty boxes. In the pantry. If you take the last of the graham crackers,
throw the box away. Or even better, recycle it.

But I won't let an inventory fail stop me. I can find something to make a crust for a cheesecake. How about the last of the bag of fortune cookies? Paper fortunes removed of course. Works for me.

Perfect Timing

I considered going out to visit my parents today. But ran errands in town instead. And crossed paths with my parents and a long-time friend of the family at our favorite bargain store. Perfect timing.

Seattle Bound

It will be fun when my younger daughter is old enough to be my driver for road trips. For now she is my fun companion and navigator.

Welcome to Queen Anne!

I am excited for my daughter's new life in Seattle. She has a new job, new apartment, new roommate, and lots of new opportunities. And it's only an hour drive and a ferry ride away.

New Chapter

Her goal was to find a job and place to live in Seattle. And she did. You can find her at the new Storyville Coffeebar opening soon in Pike Place Market.

Happy 22nd birthday to my daughter!

More Than Lions

What comes to mind when you think of Daniel in the Bible? I think of his conviction, integrity, facing the lions, and prophetic visions. In today's reading I noticed his passionate prayer. He confessed personal and corporate sins. And God answered him personally. Love that.

And he said to me, "O Daniel, man greatly loved, understand the words that I speak to you, and stand upright, for now I have been sent to you." And when he had spoken this word to me, I stood up trembling. Then he said to me, "Fear not, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand and humbled yourself before your God, your words have been heard, and I have come because of your words. Daniel 10:11-12 ESV

Meet and Greet

I missed the sermon this morning. But that's okay. I was on Connect Desk duty out front. I met some new people at church and made some new friends. Plus I can watch the sermon online later.

For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Romans 12:4-5 ESV

Summer Highlight

People are asking, "How was your summer?" As if it's over. My big highlight of Summer 2013 was Family. My four children were home. My two sisters and families reunioned. (I made up that word.) My husband's niece got married.

And there is still time to enjoy summer days and make more memories.

All I Needed

I found a cookbook on the bargain table for 10 cents. All I needed was some zucchini to try out some recipes. A friend in my community group brought me some bounty from her garden. Perfect! Love that!

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 ESV

Fifth Harmony Love

I wasn't the oldest one in the audience. Getting my ears blown off. Bless his heart, the grandpa next to me was there with his granddaughters. I took my daughter and her friend, plus my friend, to see the five girl group, Fifth Harmony, of X-Factor fame. It was a free concert at Southcenter Mall in Tukwila. It was fun and we made a memory!

Days Like This

There will be days like this. A few minor fails. The beautiful lampshade that I broke into pieces. The homemade cheesecake that baked forever but ended up as pudding. But, as I like to say, no one got hurt. And all's well that ends well.

Better is the end of a thing than its beginning, and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit. Ecclesiastes 7:8 ESV

Simple Joys

Oh for the simple joys. Like dropping sticks off a bridge. Throwing rocks in the creek. Leaving footprints in the mud. Picking blackberries. That's what we do on park day with little friends!

Truly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." Luke 18:17 ESV

Personal Brand

I wish I had a brand. A trademark. Something I am known for. My older daughter creates distinctive hand-lettered cards. I will let you know when I figure it out.

Uncomfortable Grace

This was one of those convicting sermons. But also very comforting. Dr. Paul Tripp preached on the passage in Mark where the disciples were on the boat in the storm. What did Jesus do? He walked on the sea. Joined them in their difficulty. Loved them enough to confront their hard hearts.

Where is God during my hard times? I am never alone. My life has been invaded by the grace of the I AM (The God of the Bible, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the Creator of the universe).

Listen or watch at:

And he saw that they were making headway painfully, for the wind was against them. And about the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. He meant to pass by them, but when they saw him walking on the sea they thought it was a ghost, and cried out, for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, "Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid." Mark 6:48-50 ESV

Best Sermons Commence

We are having guest speakers the rest of the summer. They have been invited to come preach their best material. Tomorrow you can see Dr. Paul Tripp on the big screen at Olympia Mars Hill. I have read his books and watched his videos. Join us at 10 am at South Puget Sound Community College in the Minnaert Center!

Friday Morning

One of my people was sleeping. One was at work. But I had time for breakfast with my mother-in-law. With a coupon for a free breakfast sandwich. Works for us.

Out to the Farm

Our friend opened her home and welcomed the community group. Plus invited some neighbors. What a beautiful night for a drive out to her farm. For barbecued pork, salads, and lovely desserts. It was great to visit and pray together.

And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, Acts 2:46 ESV

Real Cleaning

Some of my best cleaning happens by accident. Like when the coffee maker leaks all over the counter. Or when something spills in the fridge. Then the real cleaning happens.Totally unplanned. But very effective.

My daughters teamed up. They surprised their dad by doing the weekend office cleaning job. So he didn't have to after a busy week. Love those girls!

Berry Pickin'

I don't know if you call it a bucket list. But my husband really hoped to pick berries while we were in Oregon last weekend. His brother found a great place in Corbett, Oregon. And we came home with 20 pounds of beautiful. blueberries.

Special Delivery

My friend knew my daughter and I would be working hard at the garage sale all day. So she stopped by with our favorite drinks. How sweet!

Big Garage Sale

It's time to let things go. Donate for a good cause. My daughter's class is raising money for the upcoming Washington D.C. trip. I put in some hours sorting and getting ready for the big garage sale tomorrow and the next day.
