Quick Photo

I love how my family is willing to pose for quick family photos. Even if the lighting isn't great. It captures a memory of a great time together. Like this shot after my niece's wedding in Oregon.

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:17-19 ESV

Slappy Cakes

My brother-in-law took us to Slappy Cakes, where you make your own pancakes at the table. We tried the buttermilk and whole grain batter. We added blueberries, crumbled sausage, and my favorite, lemon curd. Fun and tasty!

Beautiful Wedding in Oregon

Our niece got married on Saturday. My husband's sister and crew put on a beautiful outdoor event with dinner and dancing. Congrats to the beautiful bride and happy groom!

Portland Church

We were out of town this morning and missed our church service. But we were able to visit the Portland Mars Hill Church.

Pictured: My daughter took this picture of the beautiful stained glass window.

Fifteen Seconds of Fame

My son and his girlfriend made a spur-of-the-moment detour. Stopped by the Mariners baseball game and a nice couple had two extra seats. Season tickets, even. Perfect first game for my son's girlfriend.

I wish I could have seen my son dancing on the big screen jumbotron. His fifteen seconds of fame.

NOTHING

What is the biggest problem or crisis in your life right now? Or in the life of someone you love? Whatever it is, God has you covered. This morning I read a good reminder in the Old Testament book of Jeremiah. NOTHING is too hard for God. He can work in and through any situation.

'Ah, Lord GOD! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. Jeremiah 32:17 ESV

Water Tower

My sister is good at finding fun places to visit. Like Volunteer Park in Seattle. We had fun checking out the 360 degree view from the water tower earlier this summer. I am thankful I was able to climb all 180 steps to the top!

54 Years and Counting

Happy Anniversary to my favorite snow birds! Otherwise known as my in-laws.

I appreciate them more every year.

Park Day Buddy

I like attending park days with my daughter. She is so great with the little ones. She braves the heat and pushes kids on the swing. Chases little ones through the play structure. And lets the rest of us enjoy the shade and conversation.

But Jesus called them to him, saying, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God. Luke 18:16 ESV

Grandpa Love

I was blessed with godly grandparents who were involved in my life.. I am so thankful my children have godly and loving grandparents in their lives too. Including my father-in-law.

Happy Birthday to Arnold!

Empowered by the Spirit to Pray

In today's sermon on Acts 4, Mark Driscoll asked some key questions.

Who do you think wrote the Bible? Is the Bible a book people wrote about God, or a book God wrote through people?
Which Christian friends do you go to? Who can you lean on or who can lean on you?
Who do you pray with? Non-Christians may provide good counsel, but they can't pray with you.
When tough times come, do you trust or doubt God's sovereignty? Pastor Mark gave some helpful comments about sovereignty and predestination. Basically, people have a plan. But God has a bigger and better plan.
And who does the Holy Spirit want you to speak boldly to?

http://marshill.com/media/acts-empowered-for-jesus-mission/empowered-by-the-spirit-to-pray

And when they heard it, they lifted their voices together to God and said, "Sovereign Lord, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them, who through the mouth of our father David, your servant, said by the Holy Spirit, "'Why did the Gentiles rage, and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers were gathered together, against the Lord and against his Anointed'—for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place. Acts 4:24-28 ESV

Scarecrow in a Cucumber Field

I love finding great word pictures. Like today's reading in the Old Testament book of Jeremiah. The section was about man-made idols.

Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field, and they cannot speak; they have to be carried, for they cannot walk. Do not be afraid of them, for they cannot do evil, neither is it in them to do good." There is none like you, O LORD; you are great, and your name is great in might. Jeremiah 10:5-6 ESV

Saving Dinner

I love saving dinner. Coming up with something using what I have. Like tonight's soup. I threw in leftover fajita fixings, rice, chopped onion and red pepper, a can of tomato sauce, and a can of corn. Plus chopped some frozen meatloaf in the freezer. Dinner is served.

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it. Proverbs 15:17 ESV

Best Roomie

It was hard to leave home in Taiwan and attend college in the States. But gave God me a family to live with. And the big sister I never had.

Happy Birthday Dear Friend!

Fish for Dinner

My daughter had fun fishing last night. And we had fun watching her catch a big trout. Eighteen inches long and about 2 pounds. The other two were smaller.

Park Day Hike

It's great to find new places to explore and hike. Close to town, even. Today's park day with friends was at Oakland Bay Historical Park. It was a short hike down to the water. Perfect for a picnic.

Almost Done

I'm almost done cashing in my points. Taking advantage of birthday rewards. Had a free breakfast, free burger, and free frozen yogurt. Not all in the same day! I think I still have a free cup of coffee coming.

No Other

I am reading through the book of Isaiah right now. I love how God is the hero of the book. There is no maybe about Him. He is God. There is no other.

For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it empty, he formed it to be inhabited!): "I am the LORD, and there is no other. I did not speak in secret, in a land of darkness; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, 'Seek me in vain.' I the LORD speak the truth; I declare what is right. Isaiah 45:18-19 ESV

International Birthday Dinner

That was an international dinner party. My mom made Kung Pao Tofu and Chicken. My Chinese neighbor made General Tso's Chicken and egg rolls. My South African friends made a traditional dish called Bobotie.

For dessert we could choose from my mother-in-law's lemon bars and chocolate pudding cake. Or Chinese sponge cake. With giant raspberries from my mom's garden.

I'm glad my son and his girlfriend could join us. It's always fun to share a meal at my parents' house.

Bagel Birthday Lunch

That's what I call a win-win-win. Birthday lunch at my favorite place with my girls. Gift card to cover it. On the day (Wednesday) they serve my older daughter's favorite: smoked salmon chowder. Works for us.

Backyard Community Group

My older daughter decorated for our community group dinner tonight. She made a birthday banner and strung lights. My younger daughter helped clean house. Then entertained little friends.

And thanks to my husband for getting the fire pit going for roasted hot dogs. Family teamwork. Love it.

Park Day

My friend from church organized a local park day schedule. Today we went to Walker Park in Shelton, where the little ones enjoyed the playground and walking down to the beach.

I appreciate how helpful my younger daughter is. She is a great babysitter.

Spread it Out

I love this Bible story. I read it to my friend in the assisted living home last week. (2 Kings 19). And then I read the parallel passage (Isaiah 37) during my personal quiet time. When King Hezekiah faced overwhelming challenges, he spread it all out before the Lord. So when I woke up and couldn't sleep the other night, I prayed through my list of concerns.

Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the LORD, and spread it before the LORD. Isaiah 37:14 ESV

Empowered by the Spirit to be Courageous

The Christian life is a series of pop quizzes. So study, study, study the Bible. And pray, pray, pray. We need to be ready to talk about our faith.

Today's sermon on Acts 3:11-26 was about Peter's powerful sermon. Peter didn't hold back from preaching the truth. Whether it was popular or not. You can read the transcript or listen online.

Be ready to speak and the Holy Spirit will give you courage.

But what God foretold by the mouth of all the prophets, that his Christ would suffer, he thus fulfilled. Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus, whom heaven must receive until the time for restoring all the things about which God spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets long ago. Acts 3:18-21 ESV

Good Thing

A friend asked my plans for the 4th of July. I said we were spending the day with my in-laws and my mother-in-law was in charge of the meal. My friend asked if that was a good thing. Yes! A very good thing!

I love my husband's family and am blessed to have a sweet mother-in-law. Who makes the best potato salad.

Partners for Life

They said their vows and meant them. And kept them. My grandparents celebrate their 72nd wedding anniversary today. I am so blessed by their example of love, faithfulness, and partnership.

My husband came in with three chicken eggs and one crushed blue egg.  Our dog found the last of the hidden Easter eggs. And enjoyed a couple of chocolate candies before being discovered.

In a Flash

Sometimes I look at my four children and wonder where the time went. We went from car seats to driver's licenses in a flash.

Pictured: Thanks to my sis for rounding up my four plus one, and getting this picture after church.

To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, 2 Thessalonians 1:11 ESV
