Empowered by the Spirit to Heal

Even if you are not battling an illness or injury, you probably know someone who is. In today's sermon about healing, Mark Driscoll answered some questions about healing.

Why is there sickness? Does healing replace traditional medicine? Is all healing from God? Why does God heal? Can everyone receive healing in this life? When will all of God's people receive healing? And how should we minister to the sick?

You can listen or read the transcript online.

But Peter said, "I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!" And he took him by the right hand and raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were made strong. And leaping up he stood and began to walk, and entered the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. Acts 3:6-8 ESV

Yogurt Love

My first batch was a success. I made 7 six-ounce jars of yogurt in my new yogurt maker. Cost me four bucks at a garage sale.

The only thing I would change is the start time. Starting the incubation process at 5 pm meant getting up at 3 am to turn it off and put them in the fridge.

But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. 1 Timothy 6:8 ESV

Three Sisters

I hoped to have things in better order before my sisters saw our new home. No worries. No judgement from them. My youngest sister jumped in and helped me organize my bedroom and walk-in closet. Just what I needed.

In One Place

All the grandchildren in one place. Love it.

And now we disperse to our three states: Washington, Oregon, and California.

Group Hug

We called a group hug. In the middle of the parking lot. Time to say good-bye to my sister and her girls. It was fun to have them here. My other sister leaves soon.

Couch Time

How many cousins can you fit on a couch? Seven plus one girlfriend. We could have fit more if my other sister's girls had piled on. I love sister time and my kids love cousin time.

Cook Together

The family that cooks together stays together. Or something like that. We had a great meal with homemade wontons and my brother-in-law's trademark onion pancakes with bacon. Good eats and good times.

Church Family

We did our part to fill most of two rows. Nice to have both of my sisters and their families at Mars Hill Olympia Church today. And my children.

It was a great sermon about the church. What it is and what it isn't. You can watch online or read the transcript.

And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. Acts 2:46-47 ESV

Good Morning

Hot breakfast with coffee. And loved ones. Works for me.

Wood Splitter

It helps to have a wood splitter in the house. I'm not talking about my parents' 6.0 ton wood splitter. I mean a strong daughter who is willing to tackle projects and get things done.

Mix It Up

We like to mix it up at community group. Enjoy some good food, fellowship, and prayer time. We watched the sermon from last week since most of us missed it.

And tonight we had a hula hoop demonstration.

Pictured: My husband wishes he could hula like our older daughter.

Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:37-38 ESV

Water Lily Chain

The cousins had fun at the lake today. They gathered water lilies and made a chain that stretched from my parents' property to my grandparents' dock. Beautiful.

As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17 ESV

Day Trip

The weather was better than predicted. Perfect for a day trip to Seattle. With the grandparents, two sisters and husbands, and six cousins. No wait, make that seven. My younger son drove down from Bellingham to surprise us.

May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, Romans 15:5 ESV

Cousin Time

The sun was shining when we left home to go out to my parents' place. I'm glad the cousins got to enjoy some lake time. Before the rain started. You have to seize the moments.

Father's Day to Remember

This was a Father's Day to remember. Hearing my Dad preach at the Chinese church. Having my sister and family drive all night from Pasadena to get there in time. Reunited with our oldest, who hitched a ride with my sister.

Lunch with my parents and in-laws. A quick visit with my Gramma, who turned 91 today. And weathering a power outage with my parents and sister's family.

Made some memories. Just missing one son in Bellingham and my sister and family in Oregon.

Pictured: Cooking and eating outside with no electricity.

And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Colossians 3:14 ESV

All Moved In

We have a new family renting our home. They are all moved in. Except for the new baby due in a few weeks. Welcome to the Loop!

Breakfast Date

Breakfast is a great way to start the day. Even better when joined by your mother-in-law and daughters. Is this our new Friday morning tradition?

Ready for a Break

I am ready for a break. We are almost done with preparations for new renters. I can stop running from one house to the other.

And my jury duty is over. Too bad we couldn't reach a unanimous decision after six hours of deliberation. Now I have time to clean my own house.

Happy Plum

The ornamental plum tree seems happy in our front yard. With room to spread out. Several years ago my son worked hard to dig up two trees and relocate one to the back yard.

Old Neighborhood

I miss walking the loop. Going to my Chinese neighbors' home any time of day or night. Like tonight when I was in our old neighborhood working on our rental house.

Do not forsake your friend and your father's friend, and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity. Better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away. Proverbs 27:10 ESV

Monday Dinners

I could get used to this. Dinner with the in-laws on Monday night. We were treated to a salmon feast tonight. It's great having them in town and just down the road.

Empowered by the Spirit to Follow Jesus

I missed today's sermon because I was wearing the "I can help" name tag. In other words, I was serving at the Connect Desk. But no worries. I can watch the sermon online. And find out more about the Holy Spirit and the gift of tongues.

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4 ESV

Heavy Metal

I don't usually have that much fun recycling. Today I hauled two old appliances away and they paid me for the metal. I told my younger daughter she could have whatever they gave me. Over eight bucks. Not bad.

Pictured: My daughter took this  photo of an old firetruck waiting to be recycled.

End of Year Picnic

I'm glad my number didn't come up. No need to report for jury duty today. I was free to go to the end of the year picnic with my youngest.

The hot lunch crew put on a great barbecue once again. And the weather was just right this year. Not too hot, not too cold. Perfect for swimming or hanging out in the park.

My daughter has worked hard all year. And tonight she got the academic award in 7th grade. Her older sister got that same award when she was in 7th grade.

Clean Your Carpets

If you need your carpets cleaned, I know a guy. We recommend Robert E's Carpet Cleaning, servicing Mason and Thurston counties. We just had our carpets cleaned at our rental house and he did a great job. Tell him Mary sent you.

Scripture Empowered by the Spirit

Mark Driscoll packs a lot in one hour. In the second sermon in the Acts series he covered prayer, unity of the believers, Scripture, leadership, and the contrast between Judas and Peter. (Ever wonder if Judas lost his salvation? Or was he really saved to begin with?)

I want to remember to pray first, then take action.

All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. Acts 1:14 ESV

Bless Her

The barbecue dinner was in honor of my mother-in-law's birthday. But she was more than willing to make her trademark potato salad. Bless her.

She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Proverbs 31:27-28 ESV

Will Be Muffins

It's Sunday night. I should be making muffins. One last time for the Monday morning prayer time. Instead I have been helping my younger daughter chop cabbage and make homemade potstickers for a school project. But there will be muffins. My older daughter offered to bake some. We are a team.

Yet it was kind of you to share my trouble. Philippians 4:14 ESV

Turn Over

First phase complete. First renters are completely out of the house. We have a new family ready to move in mid-month.
