Fun in the Park

I used to bring my kids to this park. And watch them play in the pea gravel. Almost 20 years later there are cool new play structures. And wood chips.

We babysat our little friend on Sunday and took him to the church picnic and baptism in the park.

Bake Her Own

I had plans for a care package for my daughter. My son was driving north for the weekend and could hand-deliver. Only he wanted to leave early. No worries. Put the cookie dough in a cooler and she can bake her own monster cookies. Works for us.

Jesus Gave Us Baptism

Today's sermon by Mark Driscoll was all about baptism. The whys and what fors. Followed by baptisms in the park in a hot tub. Our friend's granddaughter decided to get baptized today.

Our Community Group

We never know how many will show up. Could be over 40 or less than a dozen. This week was a smaller group. We all fit around the table. For a good dinner, discussion, and prayer time.

With a special thanks to one friend who couldn't come, but dropped off a salad for us to enjoy.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. Acts 2:42 ESV

Potsticker Love

I can feel the love. My neighbor made potstickers for me. Homemade, including the wrappers. I have them in my freezer, ready for quick lunches.

So, being affectionately desirous of you, we were ready to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves, because you had become very dear to us. 1 Thessalonians 2:8 ESV

For Love

The things I do for love. Of my children. Like helping trim the nails of my daughter's guinea pig. My friend suggested using nail clippers. Worked great.

and may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for you, 1 Thessalonians 3:12 ESV

Great Day for a Game

I don't mind staying home. Let my husband, two of my children, plus my in-laws go to the Mariner's game in Seattle. But send me text photos and updates, okay?

Happy 53rd!

It's good to see marriages last. And couples enjoying life together. Like my in-laws do.

Happy 53rd anniversary Arnold and Linda!

Best Man

The checker asked how life was treating me. I don't know about "life" but I know that God has blessed me. I told her about celebrating my father-in-law's birthday last night. I told her I am thankful for the good men in my life. If I had more time I would tell her about the best man in my life. Not just a Good Man.  A God-man. Who gave His life for me.

And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 1 John 5:11 ESV

Chocolate Cake Love

In honor of the occasion I made a rich chocolate cake. Following America's Test Kitchen instructions. It's the least I can do for my father-in-law. Who caught up to my dad and turned 73 today.

Happy Birthday Arnold!

Fill the Bin

It's time to say good-bye. Toss the recipes I will never use. Recycle expired coupons and old grocery lists. Fill the bin. And get ready to organize the papers I do want to keep.

Hit the Links

My husband deserves a break. He works hard keeping up with all his painting and yard work jobs. Plus his many volunteer projects. Not to mention all his help at home. Good thing he hit the links with our son in-between thunder and lightning storms.

Homemade Latte Love

I remember how excited I was when my children were old enough to make me a cup of tea. Today my daughter made me a homemade latte with brewed coffee and heated milk whipped with a whisk. Love it!

Clean the Shelves

Cross that off my shopping list. Who knew we had so much brown sugar tucked away? That's what happens when your pantry is crowded. My girlfriend blessed me by cleaning and organizing three stuffed shelves today.

Sub Night

I called in a sub tonight. To administer my weekly shot. My friend did a great job, even though it's been a while she's given a shot. Quick and painless. That's the way we like it.

Serve Together

We try to serve at the same time. If my husband is on duty as the lead Sunday school teacher, I might as well make that my week to be out front at the Connect Desk. And if I'm helping people sign up for the online network for our church, it works really well to have my daughter by my side helping me with the technology. Works for us.

Old School Entertainment

That's what I call old school entertainment. My daughter bought a manual typewriter at a rummage sale for $1. She has been typing away. Now to keep an eye out for Adler ribbon refills.

I wish I had my old manual cursive typewriter!

Little Helper

My little neighbor boy came to the community group party three hours early. So I put him to work. I showed him how to vacuum. I asked him to cut little squares of paper for the guessing jar game. What else could he do? How about blow up balloons? Which turned out to be great fun for the kids to bop around. Outside please.

Garden Party

I wasn't trying to match my age. But we came close. We had 42 family, friends, and neighbors join us for a community group birthday celebration. With Chinese food, including my neighbor's homemade potstickers, cheesecake, crepes, and chocolate cake.

And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,  Acts 2:46 ESV

Share the Wealth

This is one of my favorite times of the year. When family and friends share the wealth. From their gardens. Lately we've enjoyed squash, lettuce, snap peas, raspberries, and more.

Big Number

I call it a "Big Number Birthday." Which is what I will be having from here on out. This one doesn't end in 5 or zero. But I think 48 is something to celebrate. Especially since two of my dear friends didn't make it to 50 in the last year and a half.

I am thankful for the love of my family and friends and God's abundant blessings in my life.

Happy Big Number Birthday to me!

Use it Up

One of my hobbies is figuring out how to use what we have. Like the loaf of onion sourdough bread languishing in the bread drawer. I cubed the bread, drizzled olive oil, sprinkled with Italian seasoning, and baked some tasty croutons.  That didn't even make it into salad.

Pictured: The last three croutons.

Finished

I worried about what I would do this summer. Without the structure of daily Bible Study Fellowship homework. So I try to read in the morning before the day gets away from me.

I am working my way through the Old Testament. I'm in 1 Kings where Solomon is building the temple and his house. This morning I noticed the word "finished." I like that. Job done. Project completed. I want more of that in my life.

Hiram also made the pots, the shovels, and the basins. So Hiram finished all the work that he did for King Solomon on the house of the LORD: 1 Kings 7:40 ESV

Send my Stuff

If I can't travel (lack of funds and current passport), I might as well send my stuff. I loaned my camera to my friend for her trip to Greece. And we loaned my husband's cell phone to a friend on a road trip to Montana.

Morning Walk

We came out of the woods empty handed. But we had fun looking for our friend's disc. Not to be confused with a Frisbee®. Our little town has a great Disc Golf course.

Move Outside

The weather was so nice we decided to dine Al fresco. Move the community group to the patio and backyard. Bring the ping pong table outside too. Play, eat, read the Bible, and pray. Works for us.

To the Lake

It's the 4th of July. Where are you going? To my grandparents' and parents' place on the lake, of course. We first talked about getting married on the drive back to Portland, 27 years ago.

Today we stopped for my free cup of coffee before driving out to have a bbq with my parents. The good memories and good times continue.

Seventy-One Years!

What an example of commitment, dedication, and love. My grandparents celebrate 71 years of marriage today. I have seen them work hard, love their family and friends, serve Jesus, read the Bible and pray every day, and enjoy life together.

Happy Anniversary Grampa and Gramma!

Volleyball Girl

There's a piece of paper with information around here somewhere. We almost missed out. But thankfully my daughter's friend called with a reminder about volleyball camp. Now to practice over the summer so she is ready for the fall.

Jesus Builds His Church

Have questions about how the church got started? Or what the church means to us today? Today's sermon is helpful whether you are part of Mars Hill Church or not.

You can hear or watch Pastor Mark Driscoll preach about how Jesus built the church.  Here is the summary:

The way he built his early church in Acts is the way he continues to build her today: regenerated church members, qualified leadership, preaching and worship, rightly administered sacraments (baptism and Communion), Holy Spirit unity, holiness, the Great Commandment to love, and the Great Commission to evangelize, make disciples, and plant churches.

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matthew 16:18 ESV
