School hasn't started yet. But fourteen girls showed up for the first volleyball practice. I'm looking forward to my daughter's second year playing volleyball!
I wish I could have been there when my three nieces met their little sister yesterday. I can't wait to meet her myself. Congratulations to my sister and husband! Welcome Margaret Ann. Seven pounds three ounces. Mom and baby are doing well.
Patience is not my strong suit. Or planning head. In cooking and baking that is. So making a cheesecake from scratch is a real test. Bake for an hour and half. Let cool for two and half hours. Chill for three hours. Then let sit out for 30 minutes.
I think if you polled people who attended that wedding, they would share the same highlights. An amazing buffet at the reception. And the song, "How Sweet it is." The memories are still sweet, twenty-three years later! Happy Anniversary to my sister and brother-in-law!
We didn't just share a meal. We helped make our dinner at community group last night. Homemade tortillas. Flour and corn. Authentic chili con carne. Homemade salsa and guacamole. All made with love.

My family is very patient with me. They know that if five or more are in one place, I'm going to want a photo. A self-portrait of sorts. They can be glad I don't tote a tripod.
It was a relief to have some rain yesterday. My husband could take a day off painting. Besides Sunday. And catch up on paperwork for his volunteer ministry. Today we ran errands and took time to stop the car and admire the view off Highway 101.
Now we have another reason to visit our kids in Bellingham. One of those hamburger places we've been hearing about. Be prepared to name the toppings you want on your made-to-order burger. Grilled mushrooms for me! And yes, the french fries are the best ever.
I'm glad we could give my daughter a ride back to college. Instead of sending her back the way she came. On foot, two buses, a ferry and car. Made it easier to tote a basket of fresh veggies from her grandparents' garden. Plus we got to see our son in Bellingham.
Where have twenty years gone? I know. We've been watching a little girl grow up into a beautiful, strong, and capable young woman.
It's always good to have our girls together. Sister-bonding time. Even if it's only for the weekend.
My daughter sprang into action. Got out the cookbook. Whipped up a gourmet chocolate cake. As in, melted chocolate in a double boiler.

My husband asked if I saw the metal bird bath at the thrift store. Yes, but where would we put it? He said he had the perfect spot for it. But when we walked back to that part of the store, it was gone. So I've been on a hunt for one ever since.
Somewhere along the way I started baking with ground coriander. This is the seed, not to be confused with the plant cilantro. I like it in my apple crisp, apple pie, banana bread, etc. I'm not big on curry so I haven't done much there.
The inspiration started with one salmon kebab. Marked down at the grocery store. Add some beef, red and yellow peppers, mushrooms, and yellow squash. No need to soak the skewers. They won't burn in the George Foreman electric grill. That's the way to "beef up our veggies."
We're making our way through the list. School supplies. Check. New hair cut. Check. Getting back on schedule. Still a work in progress.

I wanted something that fit better in our dining room. And fell in love with a maple table and six chairs at a garage sale. Twenty-five bucks? Including delivery? Done. So I offered our pedestal oak table and chairs to friends who just returned from out of the country. Just what they needed.
